Premier Inn Exmouth Seafront

This Premier Inn on Exmouth’s sea front is in a perfect position for the beach, restaurants, walks, parks etc.. there’s a hotel car park too. It’s of course a very popular destination - and it shows. The hotel looks extremely tired as do many of the staff but the comfortable beds are there as are the limitless breakfasts.

We arrived at this hotel and were absolutely disgusted by the cleanliness of the rooms! Mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, grime all around the base of the shower, under the bed has not been cleaned in a long time. It is also a very noisy hotel, we were woken up several times with people running and banging. Beautiful location, however the hotel is disgusting. For a premier in we expected much higher expectations!

Arrived earlier than check-in so my husband went in to see if it was alright to leave car in car park, obviously paying. No one on reception so went in search of a member of staff. Found someone and when asked about parking was very rude and unhelpful. Must say the outside of the building looked very unappealing. 3.00 pm went to check-in, had booked a Premier Plus but told room not ready. We sat in reception until 3.45. Not a great start to our stay. Room looked good on entering, lovely view and nice furniture. However checking bathroom found black mould all along bottom of shower screen and dirty skirting boards. All switches in room dirty and greasy. Did not eat in restaurant so can't comment on that. Fire alarm went off 3.00pm. Evacuation - member of staff on door telling us where to go. When we were allowed back in hotel, no member of staff about to advise whether false alarm or if there had been a fire which left us wondering whether to go back to bed or get dressed in case it went off again. Next morning every time we walked past reception no member of staff there. Definitely feel better training needed especially how to speak to guests and carrying out fire evacuation procedures. Perhaps even more staff could be employed. Unlikely to return.

We’ve just returned from a three night stay at this hotel. Previously we’ve travelled as a couple and stayed in the Premier Plus rooms which we have found to be excellent. This time we were travelling with our granddaughter so booked a family room and there was a huge difference. Unfortunately, our room, 309, did not look anything like the photos of family rooms on the Premier Inn website. It was uncomfortably small with nowhere near enough storage or surface and hanging space. The WiFi was poor and the room looked tired and dated. I feel certain that a single bed had been added into what was clearly only a double room so it could be sold as a family room over the school holidays. On the plus side, the bathroom looked fairly new. No bath, just a rainfall shower which can be a bit awkward for a small child to use. I think a hand held attachment would have been very useful especially in a room allegedly kitted out for young children. Breakfast at the hotel is very good. It’s buffet style and there are lots of hot and cold options to choose from …. if they’re all available. Unfortunately, there seemed to be one person handling everything which lead to gaps in the buffet, dirty tables and families waiting to be seated. I don’t think it’s acceptable at any time, let alone during school holidays, to have just one person checking in, seating guests, replenishing the buffet and clearing tables, yet this is what seemingly happens as standard here. That said, I would like to give a special shout out to team members Tracy and Sophie who went above and beyond to maintain standards in this woefully understaffed environment. I don’t want to be horribly negative though. I can certainly see why this hotel is so popular. It’s in a perfect position opposite the beach, it’s very close to the town centre and it has a decent sized car park costing £8 per night. It could be a real gem with a few more staff and a bit of TLC.
