Ellerby Country Inn

We've just returned from another wonderful stay . We stayed in rooms 10 and 11 which has small patio areas with tables and chairs so Sunday was great to sit out in the sunshine. The rooms are lovely and spacious with the most comfortable beds to sleep in. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. And Bailey 🐾.too. The menu is substantial covering gluten free and others with dietary conditions. The food is amazing and the portions are generous. We are there all three nights of our stay. Breakfasts are equally amazing too. I could give The Ellerby 6 stars as an overall review of our stay. Thank you everyone for making our stay so great ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We wanted somewhere for a two night break, and as we love the East Coast The Ellerby seemed a good place to choose. We were in room 8 on the first floor, which was warm and cosy with a spotlessly clean bathroom complete with bath. A big plus for us was that the bus stop is right outside, with a half hourly service into Whitby in one direction (20 min journey) and to Saltburn (40 min journey) and beyond in the other direction. We used the bus on two days, and these ran to time very well. We are in the inn both evenings. (We were offered a table in the restaurant but preferred to sit in the bar area). The food is very good indeed, with generously sized portions, which meant we had no room for a dessert! The steak pie was amazing! All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and pleasant and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Sue and I have stayed at the Ellerby on numerous occasions over the years so it was no surprise to find the room and food to be excellent. Service was also excellent up to a point. After our meal we went to sit in the conservatory and at 9.30pm I went to get fresh drinks only to find the Bar/restaurant in darkness and the doors locked. Talking with staff next morning it transpires they'd been open late the previous night with a large group of guests but as there weren't so many guests on our night Wednesday 11th December they decided to close early without the courtesy of letting us know, put a dampener on the whole evening.
