We arrived earlier than expected even for our early check in but as our room was ready we were offered our key, an actual key as this is an old building so don’t expect purpose built hotel block. We had taken a taxi from the airport as the 7 minutes or so walk with luggage looked a bit daunting with luggage from tram but on reflection its minutes away although on the return journey it cost £8 each (£24 for 3 of us) and just £30 in taxi so for convenience maybe not much in it. Having the station close by proved essential for getting around the city and we were never far away from a bus or tram. The hotel staff were friendly and courteous and we asked for extra teabags which were provided and a hairdryer which was also provided. Our triple room was on the top floor and although the lift had just been fixed when we arrived it broke again and was still out of action when we left so we had to haul luggage down 3 flights of stairs, although I’m sure if we had been unable someone would have assisted. The room itself was large and clean and beds were comfortable enough, the bathroom was also clean and fresh towels provided daily. On a less positive note the floor boards did creak a lot and although this didn’t create a huge issue for us we were concerned about those below us. We had breakfast on our final day and there was full English, surprised not to see any square sausage. Cereal, different milk, yoghurt and fruit for just under £10 so really good value. Considering how expensive Edinburgh is I wouldn’t hesitate to book here, we spent such little time in the hotel and the staff were so friendly and it’s ideally located.
