My partner and I were traveling to MSP for a weekend trip and picked the Residence Inn Edina on the basis of relatively good reviews. Due to airline delays, we did not arrive at the hotel until 1:00am. The front desk associate who helped us was curt, but we figured that was due to the hour! We were severely disappointed when we went to the room. There was mold growing around the drain in the bathtub, a recent coffee stain on the table in the living area that clearly hadn't even been wiped up, and hairs all over the room. Post-COVID, I've had lower standards for the cleanliness of a room, especially knowing that most hotels are struggling to retain cleaning staff, but I have to draw a line somewhere. We returned downstairs to report the issue to the Front Desk, only to be greeted with indifference. By this point, it was nearly 2am and we were desperate for somewhere to sleep. Fighting a battle with this hotel over whether the room is clean enough was not something we wanted to do, so we went to a nearby hotel to stay the night. I returned to the hotel the following morning to clear up what had happened. I explained how dirty the room was and was met with a blank look from the duty manager. After she went over to the computer and pulled up the reservation, she then implied that we were being deceitful, noting that our recorded check-out time in the computer was 4:30am, not 2am as I pointed out. After some back and forth, she agreed to cancel the reservation and refund the first night (this is the only factor preventing the hotel from getting 1 star.) At no point did I receive an apology for my experience, or any effort to make it right beyond the bare minimum (the alternate hotel we moved to was more expensive than the Residence Inn - I know that's on us for choosing to move, but it would have been nice to have some gesture from our original hotel to make us whole in light of the issues we had.) Our lesson has been learned - this hotel does not maintain standards in either cleanliness or in customer service. A big disappointment for our weekend trip to MSP.
