The Romany Rye Wetherspoon

Stayed for a night as in the area. No parking, but there is a big free car park only a couple of minutes walk away so not a problem. Room was a reasonable size, clean, comfy bed, well stocked coffee and tea, water bottles and biscuits were a nice touch too. No noise from the pub downstairs and not far to go for breakfast! A great stay for the price.

The Romany Rye was clean and comfortable. The room was fairly spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the hotel was conveniently located near the bus stop. It is attached to a Wetherspoons restaurant which was also convenient. Surprisingly, we heard no noise from the restaurant itself but were awaken in the early morning by a nearby party. The only complaint was that the toilet would intermittently not flush so probably needs to be fixed. But other than that, we would recommend this hotel.

Very nice, comfortable stay. Really friendly, supportive, professional staff. Good selection of food and drinks. Good clean quiet comfortable room. Safe accessible parking about 50 yards from the hotel, via the Queen Mother Garden

What an interesting disaster, first day arrive arriving in the evening around about 8:30. We only booked this hotel, thinking it was a family friendly hotel. Wow it is anything but, if you have small children they have no Lift everything is stair based. Staff made us feel as if we were vermin with our children lots of eye rolling and rudeness.. we were told after a three hour journey, we had less than 20 minutes to order food for the babies so they could eat otherwise we'd have to take it all up to our room. This was not stated on the website. The only good thing was that the hotel rooms are clean that was it. Breakfast this morning. We were met with rolling, eyes, rude staff and it made our experience awful to say that we are disappointed isn't understatement.

We stayed at the Romany Rye for one night in May 2023, while visiting the town. The Wetherspoons pub is pretty standard for one of these places, we ate breakfast there and the staff were pretty efficient and the food came out relatively quickly and very hot, so no complaints there. The hotel entrance is within the pub and there is no reception to speak of, you just have to ask one of the bar staff to check you in. The hotel was clean and room was well presented with plenty of coffee, tea, water etc. Room windows managed to keep out most of the noise from revellers as well as the local church bells which were ringing early on Sunday morning! The shower is attached to the wall in the bathroom and the pressure isn't great unfortunately. Also the bed in our room was possibly the smallest and hardest bed I have ever slept on! Whilst I am not unfamiliar with firm beds, this one was like a slab of concrete! Overall, the place was fine for a night away but the room was not particularly comfortable.

I have eaten at the Romany the pub which is a weatherspoons many a times and it has been great, but this time round... omg what a waste of time. The service and food was so disappointing. We used the app to order food like we normal do. The estimated times were displayed for drinks and food it was 3 mins for drinks and 6 mins for food. The drinks took over 15 mins to arrive and even tho I asked for no glass, I got a glass, o don't mind but it's not normal washing up for them when I asked for no glass. The food took over 25-30 mins to come out. First of all we got someone else's order for 3 people but yet we were a table of 2. When our food eventually came up, you could see it had been sat under the hot lamps for ages as it was dry and horrible but yet it was cold! We had an egg on one of our meals and it was like rubber. My burger was bland to say the lease and the salad inside was basically mush. It day the lease the food was horrible and the staff didn't seem to care as there was no attempt to ask how our food was. I have complained to customer service on 3 different occasions and all I have been told is that the pub and area manager will be in contract with me but nothing!! I think this is disgusting and completely disappointing.!!!!
