East Ayton Lodge Hotel, Scarborough

The chap on the reception desk was amazing, really friendly and seemed to be a one man band. That’s where the positivity ends though, unfortunately. The bed was horrendous, a huge sink hole in the middle meant that my husband and I rolled inwards and had the worst night’s sleep - we even tried to stuff the spare pillows under the mattress to try and raise the hole. Breakfast was really poor, the coffee/tea machine made 1/3 measures and all tasted of a chemical of some sort. The amazing one man band chap sorted us out with a pot from a different kettle. Breakfast was a 2/10 - some of us had items but not others. No menu and the bread/milk wasn’t replenished. It was pot luck as to what we all received! To make things worse, I fed all this back when we checked out but there was no offer of any kind of good will gesture. I would not recommend and would not return.

Rooms where nice clean warm and inviting . We stayed in the courtyard so they where easy to get to from your car . the staff were friendly and helpful and the bar had a friendly atmosphere . It is also set in a lovely area with nice walks nearby also not far from Scarborough

Friendly welcome and pleasant staff throughout our stay. The hotel is situated in a quiet location very close for the North Yorkshire Moors, coast and Vale of Pickering. There is some ground floor accommodation in the courtyard for use of anyone with limited mobility, although to date not fully accessible for anyone confined to a wheelchair or similar mobility restraints.

Disappointing. Receptionist was very polite and helpful. The room was small and very basic and old fashioned, we didn’t even have a chair. It was quiet at night but once someone had their breakfast delivered to there room then everyone else was awake too, they didn’t do anything quietly, stomping and slamming doors and talking loudly although it was early. We decided to have evening meal at the lodge which was a mistake, the food was of a very poor standard and lacked any imagination. Although we were disappointed at the fact they don’t do cooked breakfast, it might have been a godsend that they only offer a continental ish breakfast to the room. I personally didn’t eat anything from this offering as I found it all unhealthy and the items full of sugar, only on the second morning there was two very green bananas. The only thing redeeming was the location. Perhaps fresh eyes on the customers journey from entering to leaving and everything they offer in between would be an improvement. I would definitely visit the area again but wouldn’t stay at the Lodge again.

I had the best 2 nights sleep ever. Comfy pillows , bed and room perfect temperature. The room was on the small side but just what we needed. Clean and nicely decorated. The price was amazing and we agreed we we're surprised at how good value it was. The hotel is a little way out from local towns but good if you are travelling by car. We had drinks in the bar that were reasonably priced. There are a few pubs in walking distance if you fancy some pub grub! My only slight negative is the walls are very thin which didn't bother us but might others. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning in the future!

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There is no restaurant and despite our booking advising continental breakfast available we were told there was no kitchen and no food. The room was basic and noisy because of lack of insulation. We had no response to any emails prior to our visit. There were no staff available at reception apart from a few hours in the late afternoon . We would not return.
