Old Palace Lodge Hotel

Night before a flight Lovely hotel, nice rooms. Shame the bar and restaurant is not open anymore as they were really nice last time we stayed

When i arrived i was given my room and it hasnt been made. The room was in a right mess

Is this a 4 star property? Very dated and run down

Never again Whilst my previous stays have been below average I thought I would give this Hotel another go as the location was ideal. Yet again staying at this Hotel(if you can call it a Hotel) was a Joke. No internet, when I called I used my own Mobile as I was to lazy to move.,No one picked up, I tried at least three attempts, I thought giving the 80's phone in the corner of the room a go. wow!! someone did answer I said i have no internet he said someone will be there (you guessed it) no one turned up, so I called back and said don't bother I might as well go to bed However I looked at the 70's version of a air-con unit in the far corner of the room I turned it on. This unit had no power even to to cool the room if you left it on and could not Sleep due to the noise and if you turned it off. you heard noise as the room walls are so thin The Hotel had the nerve to charge you over £70 for the worse night sleep I have had.

2 Easy things to fix this hotel to a 5 star rating Would have been 5 star BUT 2 things let it down badly 1. No room thermostats and the rooms were far too hot. 2. Bathrooms need complete modernisation, showers are outdated and not very good, mixer taps to set the temp, not good or effective. No grab handle or anything to hold onto when you step out of the shower, and with a shower over a bath these are an absolute ESSENTIAL. That being said, the beds were comfortable, clean, and the rooms a very good size, Service and food in the restaurant were excellent. All staff were extremely attentive and very helpful. Just a real pity about the heat and the bathroom
