Udai Bilas Palace

We have stayed here twice before with pleasure. We were looking forward to staying again, when ill health intervened and we had to cancel. Then the hotel, rather than retaining some of our deposit (which would have been understandable), the claimed not to have received our deposit in the first place – in spite of seeing letters from our bank confirming payment. It feels like a shabby way to treat a customer. So my advice to travellers is not under any circumstances to pay a deposit before staying here. In 60 + years of travelling, I have encountered such sharp practice in a decent hotel.

We just loved everything about this splendid hotel. The manager was so helpful, and the property is simply beautiful. Our room was comfortable and tastefully furnished and the exterior of the hotel has mature planted grounds overlooking the tranquil lake and island temple. Sitting g beneath the flowering floss silk tree by the pool, we watched so many birds. A sunbird and bee- eater in the branches above us; storks, egrets, stilts, cormorants, ducks and geese on the lake. What more could you ask for? The food was really good, and what a bar! Quite exceptional.

The hotel is the palace residence of the erstwhile maharaja of Dungarpur where the royal family resides in one part of the palace . Each room has got the Fitment’s of the 1940s and is different from the other . We took lake facing rooms which overlooked the temple in the centre of the lake and the lighting at night gives a majestic look . The service gives you a feeling of royalty and hospitality is superb. Each meal was catered to after asking our preferences and the dal batti churma with Lal maas is a must have . We stayed two nights and we enjoyed the bar with its excellent settings . The first night we had excellent Bloody Mary’s in the bar surrounded by vintage cars which are maintained in excellent condition. The second night we were treated to the aviation themed bar which had a I dian Airforce Avro in it . The bar is an aviators delight . The swimming pool is well maintained and you can enjoy a drink and snacks if you do desire in the pool . HH Harshvardhan ji and Priyadarshiniji treated us to a High tea and exchanged pleasantries with us on our request . The royal family involvement in running the property is evident from the high level of maintenance , service and quality of food . They have a museum with animal trophies from 1930 onwards segregated into Indian and African sections which is well maintained and opened on request and is a must see Highly recommended to spend at least two nights here

Don’t bother even trying to go!! I have never experienced a more mediocre management than this. They seem to be running out of grocery all the time. With 8 rooms booked you are told we don’t have enough grocery due to less occupancy !!!! Holy crap !! What else to expect !! If you will ask for a black coffee at breakfast they will say it’s chargeable !!! Really !!! You won’t feel like sitting at pool side in shabby chairs !! Worst managed property with arrogant so called royalty running it !! The management is not at all bothered for ruining your event !! Below standard property in Rajasthan and in the year 2024 !!

PATHETIC PROPERTY, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE !!! We booked 8 rooms to a have birthday celebration at Udaibilas Dungarpur and it was a biggest mistake, the occasion was spoiled and upsetting We asked for a CP plan and informwd the manager Mr.Vikram, that we would order À la carte as. When we planned to order dinner, they said they had no vegetables in stock except pander and chicken, that to he had to ask the chef if it's possible, they charge 18k for a room and had no shame to say this, So I guess he didn't see us 18 guests around? They didn't even have the material to cook what they mention in the menu. Adding to this, Mr.Vikram said they were no other guests so we didn't stock the kitchen, NO SHAME AT ALL SAYING THIS. The rooms have just one power plug, oh yes they say it's a vintage property, So why Air conditioner, Hot water geyser, tea kattel? People use phones, cameras and many electronic in 2024, Where do they get charged in two days. Coming to the AC part, the rooms are so huge, that's good !! But having a 10 year old non serviced 1.5 ton Ac is not expected after spending so much behind that so called vintage room, If you plan to go in summers or in rainy weather, be prepared to sweat yourself the whole day, or sleep in your cars in the night. It's better going to a settled hotel rather filling the pockets of these ungrateful and rude royals having no money to buy Food Meterial for thier guests.

Idéalement situé au bord d'un petit lac, cet ancien palais offre un charme fou. Beaucoup de caractère. Une architecture qui mérite de la regarder en détail. La décoration de la chambre avec des objets et meubles traditionnels renforce le caractère 'exclusif' de l'hôtel. La 'table' de la salle à manger est d'une originalité unique. Ne pas manquer l'invitation à visiter les 'bars' du maharadjah, l'un dédié à l'automobile avec visite de sa collection de voitures, et l'autre façon 'bar de l'escadrille' avec son ancien bimoteur personnel, divers petits avions, des réacteurs, des pièces diverses, et tout un décor et un ameublement à base de pièces (sièges avion, ailes, ..) d'origine. Très très original... Ne pas oublier de compléter l'expérience par la visite du Palais des Miroirs. S'il n'était pas quasiment abandonné, il serait du niveau des grands palais beaucoup plus fameux du Rajasthan. Incontournable.
