I recently stayed at Southern Palm Diani in October and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. While the rooms were undeniably beautiful and spacious, the issues I encountered significantly dampened my stay. First and most importantly, I got food poisoning during my visit. After seeing a doctor, I tested positive for Rota Virus. This was alarming, and I strongly believe it came from the hotel’s food. When I informed the hotel, all I got was a casual "Sorry." This response was disappointing, given the seriousness of the issue. Food safety must be a priority at any establishment, especially one of this caliber. Additionally, housekeeping was severely delayed. When I called reception for service, they responded with, "We will get there when we are able to." It was evident that the staff were overwhelmed, likely due to poor planning and being understaffed for the volume of guests. The food selection was another major letdown. There was little variety – breakfast, lunch, and dinner felt repetitive with minimal changes, mainly in desserts. I was hoping for more creativity, especially for dinners. What was most frustrating, though, was the preferential treatment given to Caucasian and Indian guests over Africans. This bias was very obvious and left me feeling uncomfortable. Fair treatment of all guests should be a fundamental part of hospitality. On the positive side, the room itself was great, offering comfort and beautiful decor. However, the issues with food, service, and inequality left me with an overall poor impression of my stay. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. There is potential for this hotel to offer an excellent experience, but significant improvements are needed, especially in food safety, planning, and guest treatment.
