Mint House Detroit - Times Square

Location was good, price was ok although that didn't include the 34.00 I paid to park. It was a little odd there was no people there as well. It was a little odd all the way around. It was a very nice place once I figured out how to get in and find a place to park

We booked a long weekend to collaborate on projects. The whole set-up made us very productive: quiet; preordered groceries to get us going (there's a market/liquor store around the corner also and restaurants/take out within 10 minutes' walk); big living common room with multiple configurations to make work comfortable; bedrooms with super-comfortable beds so we could take breaks from each other. A few things could have been better--washing machine didn't work, the kitchen was missing some basic supplies--but overall it was great. And a 15-minute walk from one of the best second-hand bookshops: John K. King.

I stayed at the Mint House to attend a conference. It's in walking distance and even I could walk back at night. A studio I stayed was big enough for one person and had everything I needed during my stay. My colleague had a trouble to check in but they assisted as via phone call and it was quite smooth. I will choose the Mint House again if I travel to Detroit in the future.

This is a very conveniently located, very clean, well appointed place to stay. The in-house staff is friendly and eager to help with anything. So, why only 3 stars? We've stayed there now once or twice per year for the past 5 years and their message continues to claim that they have "The Roku TV streams video via a wifi connection, allowing you to watch anything you want at any time. Roku TV is a digital streaming television (smart TV) that gives you access to movies and channels. You can watch channels that you normally watch on cable (e.g. NBC, ABC, ESPN, Food Network, PBS Kids, etc.) and also have access to additional streaming services (e.g. Netflex, Hulu, Amazon Video, HBO, Showtime) all in one place". However, in the five years we've been staying there only once was a manager able to hook us up to live TV. On this trip, I specifically asked in advance to have someone set up the TV to watch live channels (live News and Sports). The manager was very friendly and gracious. She even brought us in an antenna from home and logged into her own Hulu service so we could watch the local ABC news station. However, that is all we could get. Her Hulu contract did not include any other live news or sports. So, in the middle of the MLB playoffs, we had no access except for the one game that was on the ABC local channel. How on earth can you operate a guest services company without any live TV connection?! There are a few other corners that they cut. When we first started coming here, they had two working bell carts to take up your luggage. A few years ago, one got a flat tire. Then two years ago, the other broke an axle. Instead of taking a good wheel assembly off one to make one good cart, they simply got rid of both! So, now you have to carry any luggage or bring your own two wheeler to bring up your luggage. Last year, I noted that there was almost no water from the kitchen faucet. That has been fixed. If you wish to cook anything, you'll need to bring your own pans and knives because those in the unit are pretty much useless. The beds are comfortable, the place was very clean and well maintained. With a functional TV, bell cart and a small upgrade in the pans and knives, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

The apartment is centrally located very close to the people mover that can take you all over downtown Detroit very quickly. The convention center is within walking distance and the baseball stadium and Greektown Casino is also close. Apartment is much larger than a typical hotel room and we loved having a refrigerator and stove so we could make real food.

Comfortable and clean. Nearby parking. Walkable to various event spaces. The area around the building and the building itself on the outside were under a lot of renovation, but once inside it felt comfortable and put-together.
