Jan and Theresa made us very welcome from the start. The rooms are beautifully clean with plenty of storage space and an excellent laundry service. The home-cooked food is delicious and served in the cosy dining room. Theresa is happy to share her recipes too. A very comfortable stay.

Traveled with a small tours group spending two nights in five different locations in the Eastern and Western Cape. This was easily the best of our hotels. Jan and Theresa really make everyone feel so welcome and are quite simply terrific hosts. The spacious rooms are all separate lodges in their beautiful gardens with super comfy beds and great facilities, including a complementary jug of the local white port! Jan and Theresa do all the cooking between them and we had both breakfast and evening meals there, all of which were amazing and included a braai round their lovely pool area. They don't have a liquor licence, but there is a great wine shop literally opposite and we were encouraged to buy wine and beer from there. De Rust is not far from Oudsthoorn, but much more rural, set in a small village with plenty of small shops and pubs and an ostrich farm just down the road. Scenery is stunning and we loved Meiringspoort waterfall nearby. Highly recommend if you want to experience South African hospitality at its best.

Lovely room with all amenities you could need. Bathroom and shower especially pleasant. Tranquil garden to relax in if you have the time, great space to stay at. You might want to ask for a room at the back of the property, the trucks driving through the town could be disturbing during the night since they do not consider any sleeping beauties ...;-}

Absolutely appreciated arriving to such a beautiful, tranquil oasis after a rather rough day on the road. Theresa and her husband were so friendly and welcoming. I will definately be staying there if I ever find myself in De Rust again.

We had the opportunity to stay at House Martin Lodge during our South Africa trip with Exodus. From the moment we arrived, the couple who owned the lodge were waiting to welcome us and settle us into our rooms. During our stay, we got to experience homemade African dishes and a Braii made by the owners. We would recommend this to anyone who wants an authentic South African experience!
