Sea Shells Beach Club

After a rather difficult check-in, I wondered whether the rest of my experience here would be as "rocky". But from the time I entered the room and unpacked, my stay got better with each passing hour! As a solo traveler taking short trips in preparation to relocate to the area, I stayed in a studio room which faced the West and gave me plenty of light for reading and writing in the afternoon and evenings. The room was clean and comfortable and included plenty of amenities, including an iron, in-room coffee maker, stove, dishes and utensils so that one could prepare meals. The air conditioning unit worked well, and there was also a dehumidifier which also worked well as I had to empty it 4 or 5 times over two days. Overall building appearance was very good, as was pool area in back, and it was obvious that the beach access platform and stairs had been constructed fairly recently. There were minor issues with electrical and plumbing, and lighting could be improved. Location was such that only a short drive was necessary to find stores and restaurants. Two staff members were very helpful when I first arrived and was unable to check in to my room (Property Manager was away and office door was locked), and I think they deserve special recognition. I did indeed meet the Property Manager later and had an interesting conversation with him, and as a result of this very enjoyable stay I have decided to return real soon and definitely try to settle in the area!

The property has easy access to the beach and seemed to have a decent pool. The parking is an issue. There are simply not enough spaces. The rooms were quite run down. Our sink handle was broken and the toilet paper handle was almost falling off. Heaven forbid you ask for extra towels. Highly suggest bringing your own because they are super stingy. Floorboards were missing. The bed squeaks and the air was inconsistent. It is definitely a reasonable price for it’s location but definitely more of a cheap stay and by no means anything of luxury.

Do not recommend The hotel did not staff their lobby. All communication was through text despite my repeated attempts to speak with someone. The room had a very strong cigar odor that we had to air out for the entire stay by keeping the doors open. The keys to the hotel are kept in a communal lock box—not sure of the safety of this. The inside of the room was very run down with a mini couch and full size chair. And table with 4 chairs in the living/dinning space. The king bed was behind its own closed door. The bathroom was the size of a powder room at best and very run down. Despite my repeated attempts to speak with someone about the smell of cigars and a key that didn’t work, the hotel staff there was no resolution to the smell. I was basically told it was a non smoking room….which I knew but that didn’t solve the smell. He did offer air fresheners… definitely didn’t want air freshener smelling cigars. The two doors to the balcony both did NOT lock. This was rated 3 star and I wouldn’t even give it 1. We stayed in St Augustine the height before we checked in and the hotel was super clean! The smell of cleanliness was apparent from the moment we walked in. The room in St Augustine was very small, however, they made very good use of the space. In short, I would not recommend the Sea Shell in Daytona.
