Browns Hotel

Browns is a beautiful hotel. Small and friendly with great attention to detail in everything- the rooms, the toiletries, the breakfast, the atmosphere. Mike and. Susan are great hosts, always helpful and calm and so gentle. Would highly recommend Browns.

Great little hotel, lovely room with very comfy bed and the most gorgeous shower gel! Breakfast was superb with great choices and even went off menu just for us ☺️ Also had lovely evening meal. Good staff, excellent location and would highly recommend.

No parking available on-site but the hotel can provide a parking permit (fee payable) to park in the local council car park which is about 6 minutes walk. You can briefly park outside the hotel go collect a permit Hotel very centrally located Staff very friendly and welcoming Older building - very well decorated There is no lift - staircase is a little narrow so do check if you have mobility issues Breakfast was great and freshly cooked to order The accommodation was pricy for the size of the room but Dartmouth is an expensive location with limited options for budget travellers

Very comfortable, clean hotel. Well located near the centre of the town. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful . The breakfast was amazing, plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Downsides, the parking, always difficult in a town centre, costs extra and involves dropping off luggage and then a 5/10 minute walk to a public car park. Our room was difficult to ventilate, secondary glazing on a sash window overlooking a busy street, but that's being picky, as otherwise the room was very well furnished and comfortable.

Really lovely hotel. Very close to the shops and the waterfront. Clean, lovely comfortable bed, modern bathroom, friendly staff, tea and real coffee in the room, delicious breakfast and they let us bring our little dog. Well worth the money.

This hotel is so disappointing. We agree with Ben Feldon’s review. We booked 2 nights last week and we were disappointed as soon as we walked in. The public area is tired and dated, the staff area was dirty, you can view this to the left of the fire door you open to climb the stairs to the rooms. The welcome we received pre check in when I called in to collect a permit was extremely frosty and unwelcoming. The room wasn’t clean, I was shown 2 alternatives and they were the same. We received a refund and found 2 other places to stay that were fabulous all round and less expensive.

We recently spent a night at Browns Hotel and were left feeling very underwhelmed. We paid £180 for a classic double room and were expecting great things after reading so many positive reviews. The hotel is very gloomy inside, and felt unloved. We didn’t feel very welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Our room was tiny and very hot as it was at the top of the hotel, with only a tiny window for air! Our room and bathroom were very clean and the bed linen was nice and soft. However, my towel smelt of damp which wasn’t very pleasant. Breakfast was delicious but the lady who served us really shouldn’t be working in hospitality. No “good morning, how are you?” Just a “sit at that table” When I was asked whether I wanted tea or coffee, I asked what coffee was available and I was told “just coffee, we don’t do special coffees in the morning”!!! When we checked out, we received no “hope you enjoyed your stay, or have a safe journey home” It was really quite shocking. £180 seems a high price for this kind of service. We won’t be returning!

We received a call at 3pm check in time telling us that the room we had booked on a low floor was no longer available as they had given it to someone else. My husband is disabled,with mobility and acute breathing difficulties so it is not possible for him to climb 2 flights of stairs without severe discomfort. We were left over a hundred miles from home with no where to stay and with no choice but to drive back home . The owners had given the room to the other party because they were staying for 6 nights and were staying for 1. Do not book this hotel the same thing could happen to you

We had an excellent stay at Browns- The rooms were modern and spotless, the staff were extremely and , more importantly, authentically friendly:) The highlight has to have been the breakfast. The best porridge EVER, fantastic, fresh and high-quality products used and a huge thumbs up from the full-English eaters. The flexibility and genuine hospitality was very much appreciated- a charminmg place to stay. Would highly recommend. As with any old building, the stairs are somewhat narrow and may be challenging for elderly, less mobile people. Thank you to all at Browns.
