Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Dallas Park Central

Don't squander your money or time here. My fiancé and I had reserved a week's stay at the Sonesta Suites on Alpha Road. We were met by a lovely lady staffing the front desk when we arrived. Unfortunately, she informed us that the pool will be closed throughout our stay. We were disappointed because one of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it had an outdoor pool. We kept our reservation, put our luggage in the hotel, and headed out for the day to explore Dallas. We didn't observe anything until the second day... - stains on both the bedroom curtains and the living room curtains - the tv in the living room didn’t work - the fridge wasn’t working - there was MOLD and small black bugs in the ice machine - none of the outlets in the kitchen worked - the phone did not work. It wouldn’t even call the front desk - the room smelt like a combination of ****, smoke and musk - kitchen countertop looked like it could break in half when put under the smallest pressure We went to the front desk and requested a room change. A young gentleman generously aided us with this, and we moved two rooms down. We discovered the AC wasn't working after moving all of our possessions into this newly allotted room. Because Texas was experiencing a heat wave during our trip, enduring a week without a pool or air conditioning was not what we paid for. Unfortunately, we had no alternative but to request a refund and stay at a different hotel for the duration of our visit. The refund was issued for the remaining days. The only reason this hotel deserves a star is because of how polite and helpful the front desk greeters were.

Where shall I start? Let's use the sandwich approach. Positive start: the hotel looks nice from the outside. Then: They lost our booking (although they won't admit it, this is because they wanted to accommodate a soccer team that had booked after us so simply decided to unilaterally cancel one of our booked and prepaid rooms). They did not want to cooperate with the booking agent and refused to give us a room in the mean time. Basically steering us to arranging another room in another hotel. We were however chatting directly with the booking agent who managed to convince the hotel to get a new room. Although we paid for two rooms with breakfast we got only one room and no breakfast. When we arranged the booking through contacting the booking agent ourselves (customer is king apparently does not exist in this hotel) they arranged a room for disabled people instead of a regular room. I am grateful that no disabled person with a booking that mysteriously disappeared same as ours, arrived at the hotel after us as they probably would have had to sleep under a bridge. In the morning the hot water was out. So had to shower in the cold water, like in prison. Positive note at the end: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
