The Birchtree Hotel

Booked for 3 nights but decided not to stay for a fourth as cost excessive for additional night. We enjoyed our stay. Convenient and perfect for our needs. Comfortable room and friendly and very helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent, though cleanliness of utensils was a bit of an issue - we had to wipe dried, greasy food off forks, spoons etc before eating. Cleanliness of clothing worn by waiter was below standard for working in a kitchen. Dinner menu looked good but unfortunately we could not eat there because the dining room was on first floor with no lift and our friends, also holidaying locally, could not access it due to difficulty of climbing the stairs. Rooms and public areas recently and pleasantly decorated. However our disappointment and only real complaint was the noise of the karaoke on Friday night. We could not use our room until 1200 midnight due to the noise and vibrations coming through the floor from directly beneath our room. Admittedly the noise did stop dead on midnight but as an elderly couple and after a long tiring day we would have like to have been in bed a little earlier.

We had a great stay the staff were great . Breakfast tasty andd well prsented . we had full break fast on day 1 . partner had the same day 2 I had the scrambled egg which were devine fluffy tasty no water on plate thourghly enjoyed them .It was steak night on the Friday best steak we have had for a very long time .congratulations to the Chef and the butcher

Comfortable room and helpful staff. Good Central location. Restaurant was small but food was good. Room was well decorated and modern with all required facilities. Bar on the ground floor was lively with karaoke but noise was stopped early and did not disturb our sleep.

Love this spot. Staff are always nice and friendly. We just had a drink this time. Dogs are welcome. Would love to stay longer . It’s been done out since we were last here, looks fantastic menu looks great too. Sofas are very comfortable. Was quite busy for a midweek afternoon

Stayed at the Birchtree while visiting family locally - bedroom was lovely, very clean - hotel staff were super friendly and food at the restaurant was great. I was unwell while there and the staff were really accommodating and I lived off of their lovely cauliflower soup. Would highly recommend!

Nicely appointed, super-clean rooms. Good WiFi and the breakfast is just amazing, with lots of options including delicious haggis. Only slight negative is you can hear what’s happening in adjoining rooms, but that’s typical for an older building.

Great place for 4 golfers playing the courses in the surrounding area. The twin rooms were large and very clean with tea / coffee making facility. Although the large shower cubicle was in the room, the panels were very opaque for complete privacy. Separate toilet. Comfy beds. Meals in restaurant where great value.

Stayed here before and very pleased. Great staff, lively local bar and a really quite sophisticated restaurant,. A great meal and very reasonable. We'd definitely stay again and can highly recommend. I need write 200 characters! Nice area so what more do you want.

We stayed for one night, while travelling through South West Scotland. Great central location, next to the river. No car park but public car park directly over the road. Warm welcome and shown to a modern room on the top floor. We ate in the restaurant that evening and food was excellent. Would definitely use again if we are in the area.
