What a great, little place and awesome owners! Came into Custer mid-afternoon and after cruising the main drag, decided that we wanted to stay at the Rocket Inn. The motel is painted bright red and (bright) white. The exterior colors exude "clean". After having a nice chat with the owner, she let me know that our room would be ready in about an hour, but checked us in. My wife and I went and toured the Chief Crazy Horse Monument, ate dinner and then came back to the motel. What a great place! After spending over 30+ years on the road in my job prior to retiring and being in my share of motels/hotels, the Rocket Inn takes "first place" for room cleanliness. What a great and cute place. This is an older motel, but everything is kept in tip-top shape. If you're passing through Custer and need a place to stay, this should be your first choice.

We recently stayed at the Rocket Motel in Custer, wow what a fun place, a little blast from the past. It is so convenient to most anywhere you want to go in the Custer area. The owners could not have been more pleasant. Our room was so cute, quiet, immaculately clean with great Wi-Fi & TV and excellent free coffee and hot chocolate. We would highly recommend The Rocket Motel to anyone visiting Custer!

The Rocket Motel was a perfect place to rest during our exploration of the Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park. Conveniently located near local restaurants, the motel put the quality and cleanliness of its its building and its furnishings first. We turned the air conditioner unit off when we left for the day because it only took a few minutes to get the room comfortable. The coffee in the office was delicious. I especially like the numbered parking spots, each matched to a room. Don, thanks for having such a great place for us in which to stay during our trip through South Dakota.

Retro motel that was very convenient to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Our cabin was small but very clean and perfect for our needs. Parking in front of the room sure makes unloading and loading easy. Owner friendly and recommended a great place to eat close by. Would stay there again.

This cute little motel is a blast from the past! The owners are very friendly and they have done a great job of updating this old style motel to be a shiny new diamond! This is exactly what I want when I go to the Black Hills. Nothing fancy, but clean, well decorated, cute, safe and close to attractions. This hotel is walking distance from bars and restaurants and the main ***** in Custer. A short distance from the Custer State Park Gates, and wildlife loop in the park. Easy to get to crazy horse, Hill city and Mount Rushmore. I’ve stayed many places in the Black Hills and Custer is still my favorite place to stay! This hotel will not disappoint.

Already planning to go back next year! Excellent rooms, clean, and very comfortable! Would give it 10 stars if I could! Close to restaurants, main street, and anything else you could possibly need. Hosts were extremely friendly and helpful.

This place was sparkling clean with fluffy towels and a comfortable bed. The owner was welcoming and helpful; and, the staff was friendly. The restaurant recommended across the street, The Pounding Fathers, served wonderful dishes and gave a discount to Rocket Motel customers! It made this travel stop stand out in our minds! Thank you Rocket Motel!

Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Comfortable setting. The outside back patio had all you need to bbq. Very pleased. Had that 60 -70’s style. I would recommend and would stay again. Nice little kitchen. Located right in town (it’s a small town).

Friendly owners. Grounds and rooms were very clean. Our queen sized bed was super comfortable. The bathrooms was original retro tile. We were on motorcycle, and although the lot is on a slope, there is a flat space for ‘motorcycle only’ parking that worked out great. Located within walking distance of good restaurants and breweries. We will definitely stay here again.
