Kate's Place was shipped to CB in 1922 by train as one of the first original Montgomery Ward's kit homes. It was erected by a local miner with the help of friends and neighbors. The home is named after Kate Starika who shared letters with the lonely miner and agreed to marry him after he provided her with a respectable home. The home was restored in the early 80's and was recognized by the Board of zoning and Architectural Review as the best example of historical renovation completed that year in CB. "We tried to maintain as much of the historical integrity as possible. The renovation was a labor of love." As much of the original wood trim, flooring and light fixtures were retained. Beautiful leaded glass doors and side panels were designed in Dallas to fit the new entrance way into home and the wonderful enclosed sunroom. The perfect place to relax after a day of skiing, hiking, biking or shopping in town.
