This renovated and adorable "Gingerbread House" is a studio cottage nestled amongst beautiful trees and tropical flowers and an organic farm growing Turmeric, Ginger, Papaya, Tangerines, Avocado, Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit, Macadamia Nuts, Lychee, coffee and tropical flowers. The cottage is a "tiny home" (220 sq ft) but has high ceilings with a huge window looking out onto the majestic trees. Fully equipped kitchenette, beautifully tiled bathroom, and cedar lined walls. There is internet inside the cottage as well as 3 other systems accessible ON the property both indoors and out that is available to you. We are located in a gulch/valley so cell service is better in some spots on the property than others. We use our cell phones almost exclusively without issue.The kitchenette is has a coffee maker, microwave, burners, toaster oven and full sized fridge. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and the entire cottage is lined with cedar. There is a seasonal stream flowing just 50 feet from the cottage with a great spot to sit and sip on coffee or well as an outside table and lanai with a chiminea (outdoor fire chimney). The Cottage has a queen sized bed.On the adjacent property is The Sacred Garden (free and open to the public) that is a beautiful sanctuary and nursery with two labyrinths, meditation gardens, picnic accessible to our guests. Jimi Hendrix stayed her in 1970 when he was on Maui filming "Rainbow Bridge". The previous owner was a big wave surfer that Jimi was partying with while on Maui....We also have a 5 bedroom genuine log house on the property that is also a vacation rental if you have a larger group and want to stay on the property. This property will feel like you are "away from it all" when you are actually only minutes from shops and restaurants. Makawao Town is just 2 miles away, Haiku Town 3 miles, Paia town about 6 miles and the airport (and Costco) is just 15-20 minutes. There is a beautiful beach about 12 minutes drive away, great hiking 10 minutes away and Haleakala National Park is just 50 minutes from here. We are located at about 1100 feet in elevation so it is 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes it perfect weather nearly all year round. (60's at night, 60-80's in the day). We are on the boarder of the "wet side" which makes for lots of be rainy at certain cozy, green, lush and you can almost always drive to where it is not raining. All sides of maui are quite different and each season is different on each side of the island as well. Our north shore is great for adventurous guests looking for a quiet getaway in a local residence, while exploring the surrounding towns and north shore of maui. Our surrounding small towns are great for shopping and getting lunch or early dinner as shops close by 5pm and restaurants by 8:30-9pm. Unfortunately we don't have much night life to offer on our side of the island since mostly locals reside here. Our beaches on the north shore are known for surf waves and windsurfing- great for experienced surfers/windsurfers, people watching or sunbathing however many are not usually calm for swimming or snorkeling October thru May. For beginner surfers and all snorkelers we recommend a day trip to the west or south shores where you can rent surf boards/ snorkeling gear, get a lesson and the beaches have sandy bottoms where it is ideal for these activities. The North shore is located on the edge of the rainforest which makes our area beautifully green and lush this is because we get enough natural rain year round to keep everything green without watering systems. We do have seasons on island and during winter months you can expect more rain on the north shore. We also get natural tradewinds year round that usually keeps our north shore 5-10 degrees cooler than the tourist sides of the island and cools down our evening temps, which is a blessing. Our warmest months are usually June through October, where we can get the warmer temps, high of 80-90 degrees F and evenings 70-75 degrees F. In the winter months we usually do not get colder temps than 65 degrees F rarely, therefore our north shore homes were not built with air conditioning or heating systems, just ceiling fans and windows to self regulate our homes inside temperature. It is good to remember though that Maui is a tropical island, so our temperatures are humid and an average high of 75-85 degrees F. When you first arrive on island our temperatures can feel warmer than what you are used to at home until you get acclimated to the weather. So we like to mention if you live in air conditioning at your house and like your home on the cooler side then our place may not be a good fit for you.Your stay is important to us and we want to make sure your vacation expectations are met while on island. If you are looking to experience what it is like to live in traditional home in a local Maui neighborhood and explore the island, we are in a great location to do that. However if being close to calm beaches, night life and where more action is, we actually recommend guests stay in Kaanapali or Kihei on the south and west shores of maui. These areas are in the best locations on island for weather and the Maui experience you have seen in magazines and movies. In these areas you are close to everything and you can just do a day trip to the north shore to check it out. That's why we are the perfect property to relax and enjoy your vacation. We have a wonderful pool water feature and the pool is heated. Why heat a pool in Hawaii? The pools can drop 15 degrees during our winter months. So it's important to find that out when reserving a hotel or house in Dec, Jan, Feb, and March in Hawaii. The pool is open from 9 am to 8 pm but the pumps for the waterfall and slide turn off at 5 pm, you can still use the pool. Just can't have pumps going more than 8hrs a day for the slide. The pool is 36 feet long 3 1/2 feet to 7 1/2 feet deep. Once again I will mention the pool is shared with only us the owners. We have been asked by a few guests if they can hang out after 8 pm. The reason we have that in place is our community is like an amphitheater sounds travels far. Some guests were being very loud and our neighbors weren't too happy about the noise. With that said PLEASE don't have your children screaming while at the pool, again remember your booking in a working family community. So maybe a hotel would be a better fit if you're looking to party after 8 pm or have children that have to scream the whole day in a pool.
