Positives: We liked the location - you can literally walk down a slope and you’re on the beach. The resort is quieter than Corralejo - fine for a week but if we went for two weeks we would book a busier resort. As a vegetarian, there was always something I could eat. Breakfast in particular was good, and I appreciated there were around 6 different types of milk to cater for everyone. There was always fresh fruit and a good range of desserts. Our balcony was lovely - definitely worth paying extra for front sea view. The bar staff were always friendly. Amstel, wine and sangria on tap. We used the tennis courts at the SBH Mónica, which are free for all SBH guests. We paid extra for the SBH wristbands which allow you to eat and drink at a few other hotels - this made a nice change (although we preferred the restaurant at Taro). Compared to the other SBH hotels, Taro Beach has a more relaxed feel and was quieter around the pool and in the restaurant. Negatives: In most 4* hotels, if you arrive before check in they make an effort to get you get you into your room asap. We appreciate this wasn’t possible and were prepared to wait until 2pm, but it was nearly 3pm before our room was ready. After a long journey this was a bit frustrating, and it was clear other guests had the same problem. They need to employ more cleaning staff or start cleaning rooms earlier if they can’t commit to a 2pm check in time. The rooms were often cleaned quite late, meaning we couldn’t use the balcony as much as we wanted to. On one day, our room wasn’t cleaned at all. We had to ask a few times and they kept saying they would send somebody. In the end we just asked for clean towels as we wanted to spend some time on our balcony and enjoy the sun, rather than vacate the room again. The maid who dropped the towels off looked annoyed at having to do this. The cocktails were undrinkable, aside from a Cuba Libre which is hard to get wrong. The mojito was a strange yellow colour, and I couldn’t drink the pina colada. I appreciate in a cheap all inclusive you get what you pay for, but other hotels manage it.
