R2 Rio Calma

We are familiar with Fuerteventura so understand that you aren't coming to lush green views, but this hotel is truly in the middle of nowhere. That said, as a hotel it's absolutely magnificent - beautifully set up, immaculately clean, friendly staff, REALLY good food for an all inclusive. The negatives - other than the location :- 1) the main bar in reception needs better staffing after 5pm 2) there never seemed to be any spoons at breakfast 3) the coffee machines in the restaurant are appalling - like dishwater at best 4) the spa is not worth the money. We paid 20E each (or maybe 25E each) for a 2 hour session and it really isn't worth it. Lots of the facilities aren't working, the changing room is shabby and there was no sense of 'luxury' which I would normally associate with a spa 5) when you order drinks, you aren't told what is included and what isn't. There is a sign at reception telling you that only specific cocktails are free (i.e. pre-made) but then if you order something that's not on that list, you aren't told it's at a cost and are just issued with a bill when you leave. Don't get me wrong, they aren't expensive (6E for a beautifully potent mojito!) but if you really thought it was ALL inclusive, you'd be upset 6) THERE IS NO BEACH ACCESS so although it's advertised as being in a 'seafront location', don't be fooled The positives :- 1) for 'buffet' food, it was fantastic, night after night 2) great cocktails if you get the 'paid for' ones - the others were pre-made and pretty insipid 3) really easy car rental available from the hotel - don't bother going into Costa Calma - the standard response is that there is nothing on the island when there clearly is 4) beautiful pools and views 5) a good pool bar that's open until 6pm 6) there is entertainment at night, although we didn't go to any 7) room service is surprisingly well priced, although it arrived at the room cold If you're looking for a really secluded get-away, you'll adore this hotel. If you want to be able to walk out for a drink, or a bite to eat or to mooch around the shops you'll be an 8E taxi ride away. Overall, a great holiday as we hired a car. Without it we would have been bored.

Un très bel établissement parfaitement entretenu et qui propose des services de très bonnes qualités. Vue directe sur l’océan. Hall d’accueil cathédrale. Superbes piscines. Espaces verts remarquablement entretenus. Joli spa très agréable.

Unfortunately, our first day at the hotel was not as pleasant as we had hoped. A weeks ago, I emailed the hotel to ask if our booked room had a balcony and to inquire about the possibility and cost of upgrading to a sea view room. I received a response stating that they couldn't confirm if our room would have a balcony but provided the potential upgrade cost. Upon arrival, I was surprised to find that my simple inquiry had been treated as a confirmed upgrade request, resulting in an additional charge of 140 euros. I never intended to request the upgrade if the standard room I paid for was acceptable — but I never got the chance to see it. While the view is indeed nice, the balcony experience is disappointing — instead of enjoying the view comfortably, I have to stand to see anything beyond the balcony wall. Furthermore, the room lacks basic amenities like water, coffee, or tea, which is unexpected for a hotel of this standard. To make matters worse we waited 20 minutes for a bottle of water during the supper (can't take it yourself) , long enough to finish both my main course and dessert before it finally arrived, this is absurd. Could imagine exclusive drinks, but water?! Although we didn't want to cause a scene and ended up paying the additional charge to avoid further frustration, the overall experience left a bitter taste. The hotel itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, our first impression is far from positive. I sincerely hope the rest of our stay will be more enjoyable.

First impressions of the hotel were amazing! Big and impressive! Checked in and given brief directions to our room . Room was smaller than expected and needed upgrade . Small fridge inside the cupboard was hot and also very dirty . Restaurant was very understaffed ! Food not very warm . People rushing about like it’s the end of the world to get fed. We ended up eating out at food was a disaster. Jazz bar in hotel not open . Quiet early morning not possible as building work going on starts at 7am ( we weren’t told about this ) I found staff rude and unfriendly. Walked into Costa calma to eat - about 40 mins walk along walk . Few nice places there . Didn’t budget for this as we had booked half board ! Very disappointed. No information in rooms about local area or restaurant opening times which I found disappointing. Also no kettle or cooking facilities- being half board would have been nice to be able to make lunch in room . Far too many beds round the pools . Beach access doesn’t exist unless you want to visit a building site . Very disappointed for what we paid . Sadly we won’t be back .

Wenn man das Hotel von weitem sieht, denkt man, es wäre eine Kirche. Die Eingangshalle ähnelt einer großen Kirche mit Blick auf das Meer und Liften mit Meerblick. Von außen erinnert das Hotel an ein Dorf (ähnlich wie Bad Tölz) mit mehreren Häusern in verschiedenen Farben und wundervollen Blumen und einem super schön angelegten Garten. Das Hotel ist am Hang / an Klippen gebaut und deshalb hat man stets einen tollen Blick aufs Meer. Auch von den zwei schön angelegten Pools und von beiden Restaurants / Bars hat man Meerblick. Es gibt einen Spabereich, den jeder Gast einmal pro Aufenthalt kostenlos nutzen kann. Außerdem gibt es einen Spielebereich und einen Miniclub. Des Weiteren gibt es Sportmöglichkeiten (Tennis, Volleyball, Bogenschießen, Aquagym) und Animation. Abends finden regelmäßig Shows statt. Neben dem Eingangsbereich gibt es einen kleinen Supermarkt, eine schöne Bar und Autovermietungen. Die Zimmer sind einfach und nicht sonderlich groß aber passend im Stil gehalten. Das Essen ist sehr lecker und bietet mit verschiedenen Themenabenden eine große Auswahl an internationalen und lokalen Spezialitäten. In circa 10 Gehminuten erreicht man den Strand (man geht am Meer an der Klippe entlang und hat einen tollen Ausblick), wo auch Kiten und Wingfoilen angeboten wird. In der anderen Richtung erreicht man in circa 15 bis 20 Gehminuten das Zentrum von Costa Calma. Circa 10 Gehminuten entfernt befindet sich eine Busstation, von wo aus man z.B. nach Moro Jable fahren kann.

This is a stunning hotel with beautiful gardens and the building is fabulous! It has such potential to be an amazing hotel! The pool is fabulous! Downside hmm were do i start i was unable to get a sun bed for the duration of my stay and they were all so close together for comfort! The biggest downfall is the Restaurant it is total chaos trying to find a seat around 8/8.30pm is difficult! As for the food after a dodgy tummy after the first night i was very selective in what i chose! The food is generally cold so i only chose food that was being cooked by the chef in front of you which was always quite nice but was atleast warm! i encountered one or two of the staff members to be rude one at the main reception bar and one at the entertainment bar! The entertainment was cringy most of the time! As a resort it is very quiet bar one half decent beach restaurant there is nowhere else i would eat or drink! we had gorgeous weather given the rest of the canary islands had torrential rain!
