Hampton Inn Mesa Verde/Cortez

Carlos at the front desk is an all-star. He is friendly and helpful, takes care of small details, and is quick to help. We stayed for two nights and I noticed he was always busy making the lobby look inviting and clean. The hotel room was clean and comfortable and in a good location only about 10 minutes from Mesa Verde, 50 minutes to Durango, and 45 minutes to Four Corners. There are stores nearby to get supplies and I would stay here again.

I've stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns in my time and am a Diamond Member. We stayed at several Hampton Inns on our trip out to the Grand Canyon over the last two weeks. When everything got cancelled due to the water line break in the Canyon over Labor Day, we came back here for another night. The place is clean, the staff lovely, the town appears safe, Diamond Member parking was in front and convenient to the front door. I'd say this was my #1 favorite Hampton Inn of this year's trip. All of the Hampton Inns we stayed at were good with the exception of Kayenta, AZ (see my other review for that hot mess) and so it was a hard ranking to arrive at, but Cortez gets the #1 spot.

This hotel was very nice and comfortable. The service at the front counter was phenomenal. He gave us a great restaurant recommendation that was in walking distance of the hotel. The bed and the pillows was also very comfortable after a long day of traveling.

Our overnight stay at this Hotel could not have been better. Everything about it was perfect from the location to the decor to the cleanliness to the quality of the breakfast. We were particularly impressed with the service we received from Carlos at the front desk. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We could not have asked for anything more.

Best hotel on a 10 day trip through Colorado. Room was large, beds were comfortable, bathroom was spotless. The front desk clerk, Carlos, was very friendly and ready with suggestions if we needed recommendations. The next time we pass through Cortez, we will make this our stop.

Extremely convenient location in relation to Mesa Verde National Park. The room we had was suite with two "queen" beds and a couch with ample room. Room was very clean and spacious for a family of 4 with hiking gear. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, the clothes washing machine was out of order so we had to use the laundry mat down the road. The hotel did not have many quarters to use the clothes dryer on site and did not have any additional hangers to help air dry the clothes ...otherwise we would've given this place a rating of 5.

Hotel looks brand new. Staff is friendly. Everything worked. It was clean. Good location to go to Mesa Verde. No problem with reservations. (Unlike most of the time I use Priceline. Priceline is failing customers) This Hampton Inn is the first of my 3 on the trip. I would recommend the Hampton Inn Cortez, Colorado for your vacation needs. But not Lubbock nor Houston Galleria.

TL:DR – Carlos (front desk) and Janice (general manager) were the most rude and disrespectful hotel employees I’ve ever met. They kicked out our young family with two small children of the hotel for simply requesting a pack n play. Please beware of their ridiculous and shameful behavior before staying at this hotel. We requested a pack n play for our baby from Carlos when we checked in. He informed us that the hotel only had 2, and that they were currently used, but he would try and obtain another one for us and would let us know when he got one. 3 hours later, we followed up to see if he had been able to get a pack n play. He simply said “no”. We asked him if it would be possible for an employee to purchase one for the hotel so that my daughter could have a place to sleep for the night. He laughed and mocked me for suggesting this and sarcastically said, “yes, of course…no!” My wife and I told him that was he was being extremely rude and that we were going to report his behavior to the general manager. We asked for his name, the manager’s business card, and went to our room. Later I went to our car to pick up the pack n play we had purchased that evening in case this happened. When I walked back into the lobby, I said “how sad”, referring to how disappointed we were with the lack of a pack n play that the hotel is supposed to supply and for how he handled the situation. He immediately threatened to call the police if I said one more word to him. I was extremely shocked by his threat since my wife and I had been very calm, reasonable, and well-mannered with our request, while also expressing our displeasure with him. I asked him why he would do that to us as a family with two small children. He said, “that’s it!” accused us of being rude and said we had 10 minutes to leave or the police were going to come and escort us out of the hotel. He also denied my request to speak to his manager, Janice, whom he was on the phone with at that moment. 15 minutes later, the police came to our room. We explained to them what happened. They agreed that we were being mistreated so they called Janice and told her how we should be allowed to stay at the hotel, especially considering how late it was for our children and how we had done nothing wrong. Janice refused and we were forced to leave. Hilton and the Hampton Inn Mesa Verde/Cortez should be ashamed to employ such rude and unprofessional employees like Carlos and Janice Christiansen. Their behavior was extremely repugnant and inexcusable.
