Once upon a time……in fact this week, a magic kingdom existed and exists. And its name is Ballymaloe. To go there and find the magic, you must leave behind your television, and all your electric contraptions, your bedside coffee makers, your computer screens, your microwaves, your frozen dinners, your aspirations of being a Hollywood starlet. Leave that all behind. Click your heels three times and say “I want to go to Ballymaloe”…….. Poof! Open your eyes. Look and see the magic of that wisteria in full bloom covering the sacred spot. Find the magic in the entry hall, the great horns of the beast from long ago. And the stunning art throughout this glorious great house. Notice the comfy, charming and elegant drawing and dining rooms. Notice the joyous people, opening up and making new friends. Feel their joy at having tea, exquisite cake or a magic potion with Rhubarb, the tarantella! Notice the laughter and camaraderie! Notice the loved furnishings that speak to days gone by and the people that loved them. Walk in the gardens. Find a magical Pagoda Dogwood, a revered Myrtle or the wild forget-me-nots beckoning you to never forget…….. Don’t ever forget the stunning meals. Maybe you had the magic cucumber, yogurt and mint soup, a divine elixir of the gods. Or the local lobster, duck confit, or lamb, each so stunningly prepared. And vegetables, fruits and mere spuds that are mouthfuls of locally grown treasure. Only magic like Ballymaloe can turn the Beetroot into heaven, and the sour lemon into a sorbet I’ll never forget. And find magic in all the little imperfections that make this place as perfect as life shall ever be!
