Hotel Emerald

The emerald studios are up a very steep hill from the main road. There is a choice of two ways to reach it but it is hard work in the hot weather. All the staff were very friendly and polite. The room was basic, typically Greek but very clean and it does need a bit of updating in bathrooms. The view from our balcony was stunning, great to sit and have a coffee in the morning sun. Overall a nice place to stay.

Lovely apartment and view. Room and linen kept clean all week. The pool was across the road and was average size and wow what a view. However the pool was not very clean, my husband and other guests would use the pool net to clean it while the bar man watched. We also had to move table and chairs to make room for sunbeds, which we had to get ourselves and whete the expected to put away. If I had been on my own I wouldn't have been able to have lifted them from the pile. The bar ran out of stock, even water which is much needed in the beautiful Greek sunshine 🌞. My Hubby has never really wanted to be a pool attendant, however he did a good job. 👏 With a bit of TLC and maybe some extra greek charm I am sure the pool area could be fab, some lunch time food and drinks would be a bonus, especially as the walk up th steep roads is a task in the heat. My hubby and I would go to Thasous again but would try different accommodation as a pool is an important part of our holiday along with all that is on offer.

We had a stressful start. We booked with Tui last minute as in less than 48 hours before we left. We bagged an amazing deal. The journey was great and the Tui Rep excellent on the airport transfer. We arrived at about 2 pm and it was sweltering. The manager Villi showed everyone to their rooms and then looked at us puzzled. She had no-one left on her list and she said she was full. She re-assured us she would get something sorted. She showed us to the pool bar and advised the bar man to give us some drinks. It took two hours and she was then given authority to give us one of the non Tui rooms. The room was small and very basic and had no windows save for the patio door and no other access. From chatting to other guests they had rooms with a front door and a window in the bathroom. We also had a shared balcony where guests next door could access our balcony and we had no choice but to cross a neighbour’s balcony to get out. So all in all not a great start. However, the views from the balcony were stunning. The rooms were clean, a little tired and very little equipment but I think if you asked the staff would do all they could to help. The towels were changed every other day and the sheets mid week. The pool area is nice with sun beds and umbrellas. There was always space both in the shade and the sun. The prices at the bar varied. Fairly well stocked and they installed a draft beer fridge while we were there. Please note that there is a really steep hill to and from the Emerald studios so don’t book if you have mobility issues unless you are happy to get a taxi. Also I wanted to mention the wasps at Golden Beach. When eating out we were plagued and the restaurants did their best lighting ground coffee. Mid week we discovered if you eat out after dark the wasps are gone. So my top tip is eat out later. Overall we had an amazing holiday. The staff at Emerald were lovely and the room provided what we needed. The TUI details don’t mention air conditioning. You can book it for €7 a day.

Well we had read all the reviews, good and bad, but we were booked and thought we would give it a go. Firstly can’t fault the Tui staff, very friendly and got us to where we needed to be. First impressions of the hotel, staff very friendly and organised. No water when we first got there as the whole of the hills was off.. but they did come round with a large cold bottle of water for us. The room is very very tired. Had tape on a mirror that was broken. The toilet door didn’t close properly, the fly screen on the door to the balcony was broken. Plus lots of other little bits .. but hey it’s 2 star, it was basic but absolutely fine. The view is amazing.. too hot to sit out on the balcony during the day.. there isn’t any shade. …but early morning and evening it’s absolutely delightful. Mind you , we were on the top floor, I believe the lower floor views aren’t as good. First day.. We went for a beer at the bar by the pool. The music was so loud.. and it wasn’t pleasant relaxing music, we seriously could have been in Ibiza!!! Think they have a lot of regulars coming back here too, as they were getting louder as they drank more and more. We thought this was going to be a quiet hotel, that’s why we chose it. But we were wrong. We spoke to the rep the following day who said his boss would call us and she did. To be honest, once again we couldn’t fault Tui at all. Mickey , the local rep, was helpful, understanding and great in sign posting us to his boss. .. and Susan (his boss) was brilliant, she helped us to find a quieter pool to sit at/swim in. She was so understanding and ridiculously helpful. To be honest, even though the pool didn’t look very clean, couldn’t see the bottom and there was a dirty, greasy film on top of it, we would have stayed by the pool if it hadn’t been for the music they play. Awful techno music and too loud. Even the taxi driver who picked us up commented on the music at the bar. To be fair the guy behind the bar was very smiley and nice and did turn it down a bit for us once, when we asked , but every time we went near it was loud and others seemed to enjoy it, so we couldn’t keep asking for it to be turned down. In summary, if you want a quiet relaxing break by a nice clean pool, this isn’t the place. We wouldn’t stay here again, but it did not detract from a good holiday, the place was clean, the beds were comfy, the bins were emptied every day, bedding and towels were changed regularly, all staff were friendly, great views, plenty of toilet roll, the water temp and pressure was good, golden beach is lovely and you can get free sun beds if you buy a drink, the boat trip with BBQ was fantastic and all in all we did have a lovely holiday. Tips.. take a tea towel and washing up sponge.

Just spent a lovely week here. We have stayed at many budget apts in Greece over the years so we knew what to expect for the very competitive price and were really happy with our studio apt. I guess though if you are used to more upmarket places it would be a bit of a shock! The room was basic but a reasonable size with a very generous sized balcony - and oh my goodness what a stunning view across the perfect curve of the bay to thickly wooded mountains. Breathtaking. The price you pay for the view is the much reported steep road up from town - but it isn’t actually that far - we got used to it and we are no spring chickens. The bathroom is indeed a wet room really but tbh I’d rather that than a grubby shower curtain flapping round me. You just have to aim the shower carefully, no big deal. The kitchen area was very tiny and basic - even frying an egg for breakfast was a logistical challenge so we took to having a fresh spinach pie on the beach for breakfast with a coffee and a juice from one of the tavernas - problem solved! Though I have to say a tea towel and bottle opener would be welcome. It was all really clean, the cleaner came every day and sheets and towels were changed twice in the week we were there. Comfortable bed, and the excellent WiFi was a big plus. The bar is nice enough but we chose to go down into ‘town’ most evenings. This end of golden beach is just lovely - real old school Greece, the loveliest beach with clean, soft sand and sparking clear water, with several really friendly tavernas. No jet skis, no nightclubs or karaoke bars thank goodness. We had an absolutely fantastic time and we will definitely come here again.
