Oddfellows Chester Hotel & Apartments

Checking in at the main Oddfellows hotel was smooth but it would have helped to have the exact address of the apartment in advance, so we could park more easily. There is one parking space at the apartment but it is a tight entrance! Apartment 5 was upstairs and very spacious. The lounge/kitchen/diner was well set up and the tea and coffee available was very welcome. Bedrooms and bathrooms were large, comfy and clean (but could do with a few hooks for towels or coats). There is even a laundry room. Decof is quirky and the location is great - just off the main streets. Fabulous place to stay.

Lovely place to stay, rooms perfect with a lovely twist. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Stayed twice recently and will be back again soon. Close to the city centre, parking close and reasonable what more would you need.

We stayed here for a wedding, the reception was also held here. It was a charming place with fun decoration and art work. The rooms were very comfy (bed a touch too soft) and good shower. The location is great ! Right on the high street with the most fabulous Japanese restaurant opposite. I would definitely stay here again. I just felt very sorry for the lady on reception on Sunday morning who seemed to be the only one there and was expected to do everything!!!

We enjoyed our stay in Chester but there were a few shortcomings at Oddfellows unfortunately, which would put us off staying here again. Firstly, our stay was a reward from my company for 20 years service, so it didn't cost us anything. The room itself was great, comfortable and quiet. However, the biggest letdown was the breakfast. We don't mind continental breakfast but we do expect fresh produce and sufficient cutlery and crockery, as a bare minimum. The pastries were stale and we had to go in search of someone who could locate any cereal bowls. There was no one in the kitchen and my husband finally found help in reception. This was at 9.00 and there was only one other couple in the breakfast room. This level of service is not acceptable. Staff were not particularly welcoming or friendly and when we checked in had to wait a while for someone to attend reception. On checking out no feedback was requested or were we asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. We have since had an email requesting feedback which has been duly given.

We went for a Sunday lunch booked for half five. When we arrived there was no greeting staff at the desk, when we went to the bar we were then shown to our table which wasn't prepared and left. Credit to the young lady who walked past and noticed; she immediately cleaned it and set it up for us. The young man who gave us the menus was very unhelpful when we were asking questions; we then placed our order and had to wait an overly long period for our starters to arrive. We then had to remind the waiter that we were ready for our mains; we didn't have to ask for the dessert menu whilst still having all our main dishes on the table. Desserts were then delivered amongst our dirty main dishes. At no point did anyone ask if our food was okay or if there was anything else or if anyone would like any additional drinks. Service on the whole was awful, a shame as the place itself is wonderful.

The hotel was in a great location, the decor was as its name suggests odd but we loved it, think Alice in Wonderland & you won’t be far off. We stayed in the Newbrook luxury double, round bed, quirky but excellent room throughout. The staff, especially Libby on reception & the bar staff were brilliant. We had no hangers in the wardrobe which was quickly resolved by Libby within minutes, she also was full of information regarding the surrounding area. Parking is approx 5 minutes walk away in Pepper Street, which is probably the worst car park I’ve seen, not the hotel’s fault, the spaces & turns so tight, God help you if you drive a large SUV. The price is £20 a day but you get a discount card from the hotel, our stay was £60 but after using the card it went down to £28.50! There’s lots of great places to eat on the doorstep, La Fattoria, (Libby’s recommendation) literally across the road brilliant, if not a little loud, 2 courses & Prosecco £90, The Opera Grill around the corner, indulgent to say the least but couldn’t fault the surroundings, food or service, wine upto £5k+ a bottle more than my 1st car 😂 how the other half must live, 2 courses & Prosecco £170 but was a special occasion & worth the splurge.

Oddfellows hosted my friends hen party in the potting shed a few weeks ago, when I say from start to finish it was fantastic. Communication whilst booking everything was brilliant, when we were greeted all the staff made a fuss, where they were hosting us was fantastic I was blown away we had all that bit to ourselves, Sam who looked after us was brilliant - he got involved with all of us ladies and really made our time there, he also did a bloody good pornstar martini! Wouldn’t think twice on where to go for further occasions. Thanks guys!

Ginger haired receptionist with oversized eyelashes very abrupt and rude. If you’re expecting a full English breakfast in the morning you won’t see the tiniest of sausages here at the Oddfellows - very disappointing that they only offer continental breakfast 😡 Rooms dusty, dirty and generally needed a good clean and renovation. Overall conclusion; once a quirky exciting Alice in wonderland type venue now more like a cat litter tray.
