Holiday Inn Express & Suites Chambersburg

Check-in with Chase was easy and pleasant. Arrived at our room and were greeted by a chunk of hair on the floor, dead bugs on the windowsill, a suspicion brown stain on the sofa and a black ring inside the toilet. The bottom of the sheets in the bed was full of hair, eyelashes and what seemed to be black sock lint. The sheets were wrinkled and I honestly think they had not been changed. The carpet was worn and full of dirt, including an impressive collection of toenails. I attached photos but they do not do justice to how disgusting this all was. At this point, we returned to the front desk to ask for another room. Chase did not argue and upgraded us to a suite. The suite was slightly better: there were coffee stains on the counter and the garbage had not been changed, but at least the sheets seemed clean and the dirt was swept in a pile under the bathroom sink. Found out from talking to someone that the manager walked out a while back and it has been chaos since. Apparently, there is a new manager in place now so maybe things will get better in the future. In spite of the filth, I gave it two stars because of the front desk personnel and the generous breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately, it’s still not enough to recommend staying here.

Who doesn’t like walking through smoke to get to the front door of a hotel?! I waited over 10 minutes for the older front desk clerk Susan to come in from outside. Reeking of cigarettes and coughing she rudely checked me. No apology for the wait. Two more trips through the haze of smokers and drinkers before I got to my room which was absolutely disgusting. There was hair all over the bathroom floor, hair and stains in the sheets, old food on the carpet, and mold around the tub and shower curtain. I went back down to the desk clerk and surprise I had to wait another 10-15 minutes for her to reappear. I explained the situation to Susan and she just shrugged and said the hotel was short staffed and had new people working. Why is that my problem when I was paying for a room? I explained to Ms Susan that was not really my problem, and that because I was paying to stay there I expected cleanliness to be at the top of the list. She offered to give me new sheets and a bottle of cleaning supplies. I asked for a manager and she said there wasn’t one but that it would most likely be her. I explained that all of my experience thus far was unacceptable and her response was highly inappropriate. She just shrugged again and said that there was nothing she could do for me. I turned to gather go back to my room to collect my things and heard Susan mumble under her breath the hard R, N word. I turned back around and she smirked at me. I went to another hotel and have contacted my bank for a chargeback. I am appalled at the condition of this hotel, and at the ignorance of the people who work there.

Front Desk staff were rude and almost never at the desk. When they were they were sitting on their phone. The room was not very clean. Pillows stained, sheets had hair, floor seemed unvacuumed and dirty. Bathroom had hair and mold. I was going to have my guys stay here over a period of time, but we found better accommodations.

The bathroom wasn’t very clean. There was hair and grit on the floor. We went to the front desk and it took Susie over 15 minutes to come in and when she did she reeked of cigarettes and was hacking. We expressed our concern and were told house keepers left for the day and that she could move our room. We didn’t want to repack after a long day of travel so she gave us cleaning spray that wasn’t even marked and some extra towels. No apology, no concern, no customer service.
