Our stay at The Lodge at Chalk Hill in November 2022 was our 2nd stay at this establishment. The first stay was in 1998, and I don’t remember any issues then, but that was over 20 years ago. Upon our arrival at night in the rain, we found that the driveway needs repaving and some light poles had lights hanging off of them. There were some potholes and rough areas. The evening front desk lady was very friendly. She noted that there was no included breakfast, due to remodeling, and that they closed the office at 10:00 PM. She said that there was no way to contact them after 10:00 PM until 8:00 AM in the morning. There should be no issues. Upon attempting to enter the room, with a regular metal key, the front desk lady had to help us, as it was night and we could not see that there are 2 locks that need unlocked. We could see the deadbolt, but not the keyhole in the handle. After we got it in, we were good. That was around 9:30 PM. After 10:00 PM, we found the following problems: 1. Wifi signal was too weak for devices to connect. We could not use the Wifi. 2. The blanket on one of the full size beds was torn in different places. This was plain to see by a cleaning person, as the bed could not be made without seeing the torn areas. 3. The A/V unit was not regulating the temperature very well. Setting it to 72F was too hot, and setting it to 68F was too cold. We set it at 70, which was a bit cold, but bearable. The A/C was set in the wall to blow directly on the beds at head level. So I had to put an open umbrella in front of it, to divert the air upwards. 4. We also found that the mattresses were stiff and the pillows were flat. To alleviate these issues, and make the stay much better, I suggest the following: 1. Set up Wifi Mesh routers in each building, to extend the Wifi signal at an acceptable strength. 2. Check the beds and rooms, when cleaning them, to ensure no issues. 3. Replace or repair the A/C unit, and put a diverter on the A/C to aim the air flow upwards. 4. Change the full size beds to queen size beds for more comfort for 2 people, with a fluffier mattress and pillows. 5. Tell customers that there are 2 locks on the doors that must be unlocked for entrance. 6. Repave the driveway and fix the outdoor lights. 7. Offer a discount at the café across the road until the breakfast is restored. 8. Leave a phone number for the on-call person at night. If these can be implemented by the owners of The Lodge at Chalk Hill, the stay would be so much better, and we would gladly recommend this establishment to our friends.
