Bear Cottage is an original logging camp and was built in the late 1800’s when the area was a booming mill town. The history of Bear Cottage has been told for generations and it remains one of the oldest, if not the oldest, cabin on the treasured and pristine Star Lake.In fact, the cabin was built miles from where it currently stands and later dragged via a team of horses across a frozen Star Lake in the early 1900's. Over the years it has been a place for resting during the area’s logging days, and more recently, was one of the camp cabins at the renowned Tony Rizzo’s Silver Musky Resort, where top anglers stayed and enjoyed the bountiful fishing at Star Lake. In an effort to retain its history, minimal improvements have been made to the two-bedroom cabin, however, there is now a fully functioning kitchen and remodeled bathroom, air conditioning for the hot summer nights, and a natural gas fireplace for cool spring and fall mornings. Water lovers will enjoy the two John boats, four Kayaks, canoe and kids kayak that are available to our guests. Our NO WAKE lake offers the confidence that you can kayak, float, canoe, fish, boat, swim, etc. without worry over fast boats or wave runners zipping by.Other fun activities for the family include fishing, star gazing lying on the pier at night, grilling food while enjoying the air and view, nightly camp fires, a three mile walk around both Twin Placid lakes, going into Minocqua to enjoy the free ski show, etc. The views and sounds of morning by the lake is something you just have to experience. The water is so clear that fish are easily viewable even in 6 ft of water.The lake around our shoreline is sandy bottom and mostly weed free so you can walk right in to the water from the shoreline or to make a big splash, feel free to dive right into the water off the pier as it is approximately 6 ft deep at the end of the pier. You can also fish right off the pier and can catch blue gill, large mouth bass, walleye or northern pike.If you bring your own boat you will have multiple choices . The closest public boat launch is Gunlock Lake (Full recreation lake) and is located across the road and a few hundred feet from our driveway. Or if you want to bring your boat to our pier, the Public Fence Lake Boat Launch (now requires a pass to use) is two lakes away but connects via channels. For $5.00 you can use the boat launch on Lake Minocqua chain.Our wooded lot with pristine water and the air filled with the scent of pine trees will launch you into vacation mode from the moment you pull in our driveway.
