The Brown Bear Lodge is located in the smoky mountains-30 minutes from Boone, NC. This 8,000 square foot lodge can comfortably sleep 22 people and on a youth retreat once slept close to 60 people. It overlooks Watagua lake, and you will be able to go kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and swimming. You can also hike out your front door to the Appalachian Trail. When you are finished with your hike you can come home and enjoy a hot tub and sauna.(Boat rentals are available at Cove Ridge and Fish Springs marinas on Watauga lake.)Get ready for a high quality lodge. Huge stone fire places, bears carved into the wood and real bear rug, and beautiful sights.*Kitchen: HUGE Island and all the cooking supplies you could need. *Playroom: The playroom has a large fort, ping pong table, drum set, seesaw, TV, swing and much more. *Deck: The deck has four eating areas with tables. We would like to share our mountain cabin located on 45 acres of private mountain land and situated on the beautiful Elk River. This river cabin is located in the Cherokee National Forest and will sleep 7 people. This home is very cozy and relaxing. You will find all the amenities of modern home including a large smart TV and WiFi, and a full kitchen. The cabin porch deck overlooks the large Elk River. And because you are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest, abundant wildlife are present in these scenic mountains. The Elk River is a great fishing location that has rainbow trout, catfish and bass.During the summer months be sure to bring your swimsuit and enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool river water. Or bring inflatable floats for a river float-down. You can also use our kayak and canoe and take full advantage of this large beautiful river. The riverside deck pavilion has a large BBQ grill and is a great place to picnic. You can also grill on an open fire at the fire ring right next to the pavilion. Or you can just sit by the river and relax to the soothing sound of flowing water. There is a hammock on the pavilion for an afternoon nap. Fishing can be productive close to the river deck. This property is open all year, and every season has its own special allure. During early Summer the fireflies gather at night in this deep mountain location. Autumn brings the color change and the trees are something to see. Local festivals are an attraction in East Tennessee. The month of June boasts the annual Rhododendron Festival in the surrounding mountains. And in September the town of Elizabethton is 35 minutes away and host a Covered Bridge Celebration with live music. October is the “Country Thunder” at Bristol Speedway. Unicoi County has an Apple Festival as well as the Fall-O-Dendron festival in Roan Mountain. November is the “Speedway in Lights” event located in Bristol - all are fun things to see in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. And don’t forget Winter! Beech Mountain Ski Resort is only a 45 minute drive. Additionally, giant Watauga Lake is only a short drive and offers scenic views as well as fishing, kayaking, sailing and pontoon boat rentals. The mountain chalet is a 3 level home and has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths• 1st floor Master bedroom has a King and full bath• 2nd floor master has queen and full bath• 3rd level bedroom has two twin beds, a loft with two beds and a kids hide away with one bed• The 1st and 2nd level both have gas fireplacesIt doesn’t get prettier than this. One of our guests, described Watauga Lake as Lake Geneva in the NorthEast corner of Tennesee. Our house sits atop of the mountains in Appalachia at 4500 feet. Because we are in the Cherokee National Forest, there are very few homes on the lake which makes the views prettier than normal. In addition, the lake gets warm early in the season. You can swim from April through late October. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a private covered marina; Fish Springs will bring a rental boat to an open slip for you if you'd like or you can bring one yourself. In the winter, it is an amazing home located 20 miles from a handful of skiing mountains including Sugar, Beech, and Appalachian. Our home, completed in late November 2009, looks like something straight out of a movie with driftwood trees inside the house as well as indoor and outdoor water falls.
