The Brown Bear Lodge is located in the smoky mountains-30 minutes from Boone, NC. This 8,000 square foot lodge can comfortably sleep 22 people and on a youth retreat once slept close to 60 people. It overlooks Watagua lake, and you will be able to go kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and swimming. You can also hike out your front door to the Appalachian Trail. When you are finished with your hike you can come home and enjoy a hot tub and sauna.(Boat rentals are available at Cove Ridge and Fish Springs marinas on Watauga lake.)Get ready for a high quality lodge. Huge stone fire places, bears carved into the wood and real bear rug, and beautiful sights.*Kitchen: HUGE Island and all the cooking supplies you could need. *Playroom: The playroom has a large fort, ping pong table, drum set, seesaw, TV, swing and much more. *Deck: The deck has four eating areas with tables. Enjoy eating outside. It also has a twin size bed swing and lots of other areas to relax. *Garage: The three car garage is loaded with toys for kids to enjoy- scooters, tricycles, etc. *Living rooms (2): There are two living room spaces. The only exception is a closet where the owners keep their personal clothes.The Brown Bear Lodge is a half-way up a mountain and is surrounded on three sides by a national park. Get ready for an amazing view! It's 3/4 of a mile from the community entrance- which is directly across from the lake. When we go to the lake we normally walk or pop in the car.Here’s some more information:Top floor:1) Bedroom #1: King Bed, twin bed (Full attached bathroom with a bathtub/shower)2) Bedroom #2: King bed, couch that could be used as a twin3) Playroom- Has a large fort. One side of the fort has a full bed and a twin bed, the other side has a matching full bed and bunk bed.4) In the playroom is a private corner behind a book shelf. There is a King sized bed there. Super comfortable. Not behind a locked door. On this top floor there is a second full bathroom that can be shared. It has a shower. Ground floor:1) Bedroom #1: Master bedroom- King sized bed, large bathroom, big bathtub, separate shower, laundry room. This floor also has a half bath for those in the kitchen and living room. Downstairs:1) Bedroom #1 King bed, Full bed on the floor (perfect for families with kids). There are also LOTS of comforters that can be used for additional beds for kids. We would like to share our mountain cabin located on 45 acres of private mountain land and situated on the beautiful Elk River. This river cabin is located in the Cherokee National Forest and will sleep 7 people. This home is very cozy and relaxing. You will find all the amenities of modern home including a large smart TV and WiFi, and a full kitchen. The cabin porch deck overlooks the large Elk River. And because you are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest, abundant wildlife are present in these scenic mountains. The Elk River is a great fishing location that has rainbow trout, catfish and bass.During the summer months be sure to bring your swimsuit and enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool river water. Or bring inflatable floats for a river float-down. You can also use our kayak and canoe and take full advantage of this large beautiful river. The riverside deck pavilion has a large BBQ grill and is a great place to picnic. You can also grill on an open fire at the fire ring right next to the pavilion. Or you can just sit by the river and relax to the soothing sound of flowing water. There is a hammock on the pavilion for an afternoon nap. Fishing can be productive close to the river deck. This property is open all year, and every season has its own special allure. During early Summer the fireflies gather at night in this deep mountain location. Autumn brings the color change and the trees are something to see. Local festivals are an attraction in East Tennessee. The month of June boasts the annual Rhododendron Festival in the surrounding mountains. And in September the town of Elizabethton is 35 minutes away and host a Covered Bridge Celebration with live music. October is the “Country Thunder” at Bristol Speedway. Unicoi County has an Apple Festival as well as the Fall-O-Dendron festival in Roan Mountain. November is the “Speedway in Lights” event located in Bristol - all are fun things to see in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. And don’t forget Winter! Beech Mountain Ski Resort is only a 45 minute drive. Additionally, giant Watauga Lake is only a short drive and offers scenic views as well as fishing, kayaking, sailing and pontoon boat rentals. The Appalachian Trail is also very close to this cabin. The location where the AT trail crosses Watauga Lake is something to see. The property also borders the official boundaries of the Cherokee National Forest and offers a private and somewhat isolated retreat that you will not forget. The land also borders the Heaton branch stream, and walking around the land provides a great two-hour hike. Whispering Pines has the best view of the mountains and overlooks the lake just a short walk downhill to the private marina. Slip #6 is available for your use as well as 2 kayaks. The cabin sleeps 8-10 comfortably and is perfect for a couple families with or without children. The mountain chalet is a 3 level home and has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths• 1st floor Master bedroom has a King and full bath• 2nd floor master has queen and full bath• 3rd level bedroom has two twin beds, a loft with two beds and a kids hide away with one bed• The 1st and 2nd level both have gas fireplacesIt doesn’t get prettier than this. One of our guests, described Watauga Lake as Lake Geneva in the NorthEast corner of Tennesee. Our house sits atop of the mountains in Appalachia at 4500 feet. Because we are in the Cherokee National Forest, there are very few homes on the lake which makes the views prettier than normal. In addition, the lake gets warm early in the season. You can swim from April through late October. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a private covered marina; Fish Springs will bring a rental boat to an open slip for you if you'd like or you can bring one yourself. In the winter, it is an amazing home located 20 miles from a handful of skiing mountains including Sugar, Beech, and Appalachian. Our home, completed in late November 2009, looks like something straight out of a movie with driftwood trees inside the house as well as indoor and outdoor water falls. Both cabins are tucked away to ensure privacy. Please read the entire listing for detailed information on the space, area and instructions for your stay.Bear Cabin is approximately 925 square feet featuring a master bedroom suite with a soaking tub plus an open, yet semi-private loft bedroom. There is a second full bath on the main level with stand-up shower. As you enter the property, Bear Cabin is located at the top of the long gravel driveway. There is a hot tub, outdoor shower (seasonal), fire pit, plenty of seating, a hammock, grill, games, and more!There is a queen bed in the main bedroom as well as a full size bed in the semi-private loft. Bear Cabin sleeps 3-4 comfortably. There is also a futon couch located in the living room area. You will need to bring bedding if you wish to use it.The lower level has central heat and air. However, the loft has a window unit. Cell Service: If you have Verizon, you will have great service, even without WiFi. If you have AT&T, you will need to connect to WiFi in order to have service. Departure instructions will be left on site, inside the guest book. We have made things extra simple to allow for an easy and relaxing checkout. The Laurels Cabin is part of our 'rustic lodge'. Our lodge is located on the banks of the beautiful Watauga River, halfway between Johnson City and Elizabethton. The lodge was designed to resemble a horse barn and sits on 5 acres with over 600 feet of river frontage and consists of 3 cabins.The upstairs Laurels Cabin has over 600 square feet of living space. The cabin has a queen bed, cat napper sofa, one full bath, along with a full kitchen and living area. The Laurels cabin can accommodate 2-4 comfortably. The living room has a cat napper sofa which reclines almost flat in case you wish to sleep on it.All linens are included -- all you have to do is pick up some food and bring your personal items -- all other items will be provided for you! The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, cookware, toaster, coffee maker and microwave. The cabin has heat/air conditioning, ceiling fan, flat screen satellite TV, DVD/VCR, central laundry facility and gas grill. Very convenient to both Johnson City and Elizabethton (10 minutes) as well as Roan Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain and Hawksnest ski resorts (45-60 minutes). Immediately adjacent to the lodge is the Watauga River which is about 100 feet wide and is home to some of the finest trout fishing in the Eastern United States. Trout species in the Watauga River are Rainbow, Brook and Brown as well as several types of Bass and various non-game species. This lower part of the Watauga has been designated as the 'Quality Trout Zone.'
