So we’ve provided several individual space heaters for night time use and cloudy days.The lodge is located at 8,300 feet above sea level and altitude sickness is a possibility at this elevation.We are in bear country! Nestled into the earth in the Rocky Mountain foothills above Boulder, Colorado, The Chaled (Chalet + Shed) is a sunny, relaxing hideaway. It’s located on expansive land bordering the National Forest with abundant wildlife, yet just 12 minutes to downtown Boulder and 17 minutes to the ski town of Nederland. It has high-speed internet, off-street parking, mature fruiting apple and apricot trees, a small lawn and garden, and a stone patio and outdoor dining area.You'll have the 350 square foot cabin and its private yard to yourself. It's situated on a quiet, paved road with little traffic and is part of a larger property with a single family home in full-time residence with two kids. (The main house and one neighboring house are approximately 100 yards away.) A south-facing window seat is always the favorite spot to read or watch wildlife, and the open floor plan includes comfortable chairs, a dining table with chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom is quiet and cozy and has ample storage space. The bathroom includes tub and shower. The outdoor dining table with umbrella, grill, and outdoor seating overlook the property and are delightful for outdoor meals and entertaining.Guest accessThe cabin is easily accessible from Boulder via paved roads. One parking space is provided in front of it. AWD or 4WD is not necessary most of the year, but in the winter, if snow comes down, it is recommended to get up and down the mountain roads safely.Other things to note:The cabin has high-speed internet and cell service, depending on your carrier (AT&T seems to work best up here.) The WiFi is fast, and to use your cell phone for phone calls/texts, simply turn on “Wi-Fi calling”. Please note that there is no AC or TV. It’s a 5-minute drive to Betasso Mountain Preserve, a Boulder County-maintained trail system for running and biking with 3-mile and 7-mile loops. Located near both the Wild Basin Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and Long's Peak trail head, this cabin is ideally suited to anyone looking for a base for hiking, riding, climbing, hunting or just lazing and star gazing. The first floor includes a combined kitchen, dining room and living room, as well as two bedrooms and bath. Upstairs is a large loft overlooking the living room that most guests use as the master bedroom because of its large windows, the king size bed and it's stunning views of Mt. Meeker. The house sits on an acre and a half lot. It is adjacent to Ponderosa Lodge (Property # 803298) which we often rent in tandem (it is about 100 yards down hill) and which can be accessed by a path. Many families have rented both houses together for family reunions and weddings. We bought the house in 2001, although Susie had hoped to purchase it since first setting foot in in 1967, when her parents brought the family to meet the builder before purchasing the house down the hill. There has always been something very special about this cabin. It feels isolated while still being close to amenities. Its an easy 15 minute drive to Estes, 45 minutes to Boulder, and 5 minutes to the booming metropolis of Allenspark (population 250!). The Meeker Park Lodge Livery is a short walk and in summer the lodge has a small grocery store for last minute items. We are surrounded by Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest so there is hiking in virtually every direction, from easy strolls to the trail head for one of Colorado's magnificent 14'ers. The Long's Peak trail head is just a brief drive. Susie's family started coming out to this area in 1955 and have enjoyed the wonders of this area in every season. The abundance of wildlife (moose, elk, mule deer, bobcats, hawks, owls, chipmunks, squirrels, seen them all!) can be enjoyed from the deck. The house is fully furnished and includes satellite and WiFi, a flat screen TV, DVD, games, books and a welcoming wood burning stove in the living room. We’ve recently put in a new king size mattress and have made some other upgrades. Its a great house. For the outdoor enthusiast incredible hiking and biking trails are easily accessible from the property. There is rock climbing in nearby Boulder canyon. Nederland skate park, Ice rink and tennis courts are minutes away. The cabin is located on Riverside Drive in South St. Vrain Canyon and accessible via County maintained paved roads that are plowed regularly during the winter. It is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Lyons, 15 minutes to Allenspark, 30 minutes to Estes Park, 30 minutes to Boulder or Longmont, and 45 minutes to Eldora Ski area. It is also within a 15 minute drive to a very cute little town with a country store for essentials such as milk and eggs, gas, a couple restaurants, a liquor store, and a spring to refill water containers for free. We are near the Middle St. Vrain River with great fishing, hiking trails, off-roading trails, biking, etc. all close by. The town of Lyons is very cute with restaurants, ice cream shop, and lots of things to do throughout the year such as a huge blue grass music festival during the summer, tubing on the river, and a parade of lights in December. If you have any special requests just let us know and we will do our best to accommodate. A four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is required from December through March in case of a heavy snow during your stay. No pets other than max of 2 dogs.
