This is an extended stay hotel that allows pets. Because it is an extended stay things are a bit different than at other hotels. For example takeout bags are often left in the halls. There's a bit more of an apartment feel than a hotel feel. The staff tended to know the names of the customers. They allow pets which means I shared elevators with German Shepards and other animals. These are things to expect and they don't detract from the stay, but are different than at a "traditional" hotel. I was upgraded to a suite upon check in and was thoroughly happy with my stay. The employees get 5 stars. Both the woman who checked me in an the woman who worked the night shift the second night took the time to interact with me every time I saw them and they made me feel important. The rooms are well loved but clean. The couch had damage from a pet that had clawed the arm. There were scuffs on the walls and doors but you didn't get the feeling that the room was dirty, but just well lived in. The office chair once had had silver bars over all the legs, but most had been kicked off and were missing. Again--lived in but not dirty. I also didn't feel like it was run down. A major plus? The artwork was brightly colored geometric patterns and very pleasant. Everything was clean and dust free and I was happy with the room. There were two areas that need cleanliness improvement. The grout on the floors of the bathroom needs to be cleaned and this hotel has recessed bathroom sinks. This means the edge where the sink and counter meet is very dirty. The only way to clean this area would be with a brush and it obviously doesn't get cleaned (nor does it seem to in any hotel). Breakfast was adequate. There are not a lot of options if you have a special diet (dairy free), but there are waffles, premade and preheated breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, some bakery items, etc. With the diet restrictions we were still able to find things to eat, but there were not as many options as you would find at a Hampton of Hyatt House. I love that hot water and coffee is available 24 hours a day in the lobby. A very short walk across the parking lot is Jackson's. It is a restaurant in the neighboring Hilton Garden Inn. I didn't go, but it is conveniently located. I regularly travel to Pittsburgh and stay in at least two hotels each visit. In the last 8 hotels--this one is definitely the one that I would recommend for a return visit.
