OMG where do I start, dripping wet from a rain storm when I got the hotel..I asked in the bar …where is reception…it’s here was the reply at the bar…Booked in a young man said ..I will show you to your room…I was confronted with a huge stair well..I told him I couldn’t walk up and requested NO STAIRS…I was told …IT WAS THE ONLY ROOM LEFT…So wet I just wanted out of my wet clothes so thought I’d give it a go climbing up, But up and up it went 32 stairs in all, I couldn’t get my breath as chemotherapy had damaged my heart plus I’d had an op on my knee for a torn meniscus..I was at the top of this hotel, room 11..The stench of this room still lingers in my throat, it was like someone had vomited in this room..I knew I couldn’t get down and back up for a meal so my evening meal that night was a pkt of crisps from my bag..So hungry I took these shockingly dangerous at one point stairs down for breakfast, but struggled to eat it for the smell of the room was still lingering in my throat..Normally in hotels after breakfast one goes back to their room but I knew I could only handle these stairs once a day..I would go to the Co Op next door and get a meal deal, this happened twice as the thoughts of having to drag myself up and down these stairs was for me just too much to cope with…Twice I got down for breakfast but couldn’t eat it, I have to admit the food was very nice but the smell of the room prevented me eating food there…I complained to a member of staff after going the local chemist for a strong pain killer, they informed me as my knee was so swollen to go to The Rambles (local hospital) as with my heart condition (A/F) they reluctant to issue a strong pain killer..The last day I was moved to room 7, one flight below the stinking room 11..then the music from the bar wa s a pain as I had to higher the tv to drown it out…I couldn’t wait to get out of that hotel..The bathroom was nice, the bedding and towels clean but the view in both rooms was much to be desired out of filthy windows…It amazes me on the web site it has the wheel chair symbol..I have lots of photos but not good with technology and don’t know how to send them…I am 74 years old, saved for this little break that I was imprissioned in a stinking room that I was informed was the DRAINS …no way was it the drains…The staff were very nice but the worse hotel experience I’ve ever had in all my years….300£ for three nights of hell..On booking I should of been informed there was NO LIFT…but 32 stairs to cope with…Apart from my knee I am just back from my doctors as the pain in my upper thighs is off the scale caused by the pressure of trying to pull myself up these stairs ,so Friday I now am booked in for cortisone injections to ease the pain that was NEVER there before the GEORGE HOTEL nightmare stay..NEVER AGAIN,this hotel needs a shake up…Mrs S.
