Wheldale Hotel

Building itself and area was uninspiring. After entering the building I was overwhelmed! The greeting from the owner was very welcoming ! Attention to detail making sure we had everything we needed. He took us to the room and explained how everything worked! Bedroom was super clean and fresh. We had a very comfortable sleep and the room had Sky Tv, Tea and coffee. A great shower, fluffy towels and most importantly a comfortable bed and 2 pillows ( which you never normally get ) . We ate in the restaurant for Dinner which I have to say is 5 Stars on its own as the food was excellent !! We had the steak dinner which is a Monday special. The steak was cooked to perfection with HOMEMADE chips which you never get down south anymore ( where we are from!) so that was a highlight. Super value for money too under £15.00 including peppercorn sauce , mushrooms, peas and onion rings. All fresh and made with love. Bar area was welcoming too. Yet to have breakfast but so fare very impressed hence the early review !! Thankyou !!

We used this “hotel” a few times and gave it great feedback even though everything was not perfect. We are now not allowed back because - 1 Beer spilled on the carpet. Infant it was a nose bleed and time was spent trying to clean and that is why the carpet was wet. 2 Stains on the bed sheets. Well the owners need to get a grip and obviously never had a night of fun. Bad points - Very steep metal external stairs to some rooms. Stairs have moss on them and are unsafe. One bathroom has mould due to no extraction/ventilation. Toilet roll holder hanging off the wall - No rectification in 3 visits. Bedside light fittings barely attached to the wall - 5.5mm red plugs used in plaster board, great workmanship. VERY inconsiderate house keeping. Singing at the top of their voices and swearing. We booked an additional day/night and this was not relayed to the house keeping. House keeping rudely banging on the door shouting - you’re not supposed to be in here. Floors are un level and you need one leg longer than the other to feel level. Bogey found on the bed sheet - hypocritical. Food advertised on the website. Arrived and no food due the chef being poorly. - Not the first time judging by other reviews. I genuinely did not want to write this review. Disappointed as was trying to support a local business.

A very warm and friendly hotel (thanks Donna) attached to the pub directly opposite the Castleford Tigers rugby ground. Fortunately for us older and less party minded folk it was out of season. Having been entertained by family both evenings we only had the opportunity to enjoy a beer or two when we returned late in the evening. Having already had three consecutive days of Full English breakfasts (after a six year break) I was disappointed not to be able to partake of the Wheldale's version. I watched jealously as another guest savored a huge plateful of the British classic starter for the day. A great budget priced stay with very pleasant owners and drink on tap.

Great little hotel, parking on site, nice cosy bar with plenty to choose from regarding drinks, sky sports for sports fans, 10 minute walk into town centre. Great breakfast in the morning at small extra cost, all in all great little find, we would definitely use again.

What an absolutely lovely hotel, the staff were fantastic and the food was brilliant. There’s a very well stocked bar and more beers than you can shake a stick at, the room we stayed in was just perfect just what we needed for our overnight stay. We will be back again.

I arrived at The Wheldale thinking ‘oh no. It’s a pub’. How wrong I was. Yes. It is a pub but from the moment I arrived and parked the car in the ample car park until checking out, Donna and Paul made me feel so welcome. Paul read the rules and regs out - usual stuff - and made sure fire regs were adhered to before escorting me to my room for the night. Upon entering, I was amazed. So large and immaculately kept. Spotless. Tea and coffee making facilities, TV and WiFi all up to spec with a small yet perfectly arranged bathroom with gleaming fixtures and fittings. Triple glazed windows keep out any hint of the road outside while keeping the room nice and cozy. For a budget hotel I was so pleased. Paul ran through everything from the TV instructions and the different light settings to times and location for breakfast and meals. I had a drink in the bar after showering and changing and decided to take them up on the full English the following morning. For £6.95, I couldn’t go far wrong. Off out and back late. The outside rooms held no fear for late revellers. Easy access with automatic lights lighting the way home. A nice, big comfy bed ensured a good nights rest as I woke late the following day - 8.45am is late for me! And so to breakfast. Paul had asked previously roughly what time I wanted it as he could prepare it ready or would I like to wait for 15 mins while it was made from scratch. I opted for the latter. I’m glad I did. The free, light breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, fruit, juices and more to accommodate the majority of people. I had a full day ahead and glad that I added on the option of the full English. It arrived on a large plate packed with everything to satisfy the hardiest of traveller - see my photo. Superb! Really fresh and filling. And plenty of it. For under £7, it’s a must have. Up, showered, packed and down to quickly check out, I thanked Donna for their hospitality and handed the key back with the assurance that should I ever be up that way again, I will definitely book The Wheldale Hotel.
