Golden Sands Oceanfront Hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful location is great and rooms have a beautiful ocean view.Would highly recommend! We had the ocean view with kitchenette room and it was very clean and comfortable.

We had such a wonderful experience at the Golden Sands Oceanfront Hotel. The girls at the front desk Fri 7/19 were absolutely amazing and very accommodating. I wish I got their names because I want to express our gratitude to them for their kindness and understanding. The hotel has the main/tall building, and a 2nd/lower building. They are doing renovations in the main building and the office by the 2nd building, but the rooms that are finished in the 2nd building are nicely done (which is where we stayed). I believe all rooms have an oceanfront view. The room was exceptionally clean when we checked in, and the a/c was working very good on these hot summer days. There is a tiki bar and restaurant onsite which was very convenient. Service at the Tiki Bar was very slow but service at the bar inside was very good. The food menu is mostly seafood, but we enjoyed our burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. Another plus about the hotel is it’s only a mile walk to the boardwalk. (The only negative - which has nothing to do with the hotel, but the town of Carolina Beach - there are no sidewalks). We walked to Kate’s Pancake House (yummy) for breakfast and then to the boardwalk in the afternoon (this time on the beach) for a slice of pizza from Fentoni’s Pizza on the boardwalk (it was good). We enjoyed our trip to Carolina Beach and would definitely stay at Golden Sands again.

We have stayed at Golden Sands for three years in a row, we aren’t sure what has changed! The hotel was so nice last year, but this year it has deteriorated. The rooms, halls, and elevators are filthy. We needed to be relocated because of a tv that didn’t work in our room. We weren’t able to get into the other hotel room until 10:00 pm because no one was at the front desk for over one hour that evening. We asked for a late check out for all the problems, and were told that wasn’t possible because it was booked. The parking lot was very empty when we left at 5:00 pm. Won’t stay here again and the price has increased since last summer! Terrible

this hotel was wonderful. all rooms oceanfront. wonderful front desk staff. a little pricey but for the most part, worth it. the rooms smell good! the only problem is that, we went in october and the indoor pool was freezing!!! what else was weird was that the "hot tub" is actually IN THE pool, so it was freezing too. we rented this room so our daughter would have the indoor pool in the off season and that didnt work out. getting in the water didnt happen!! but i really liked this place anyway!

Quiet beachfront hotel. Clean. Some older furniture in room but certainly is adequate for short term stay. Comfortable beds. Free wifi. Parking is fee for guests but can be limited and far away from hotel door. Hotel is located in close proximity to many restaurants, grocery and retail stores. Based on the fact that we went afyer Labor Day, I had hoped that the prices would be lower---not true.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights the last week of July 2006. We stayed in the new north building that opened in 2004. The room was clean, well-maintained and comfortable. There is a restaurant, the Ocean Grill, located between the north and south buildings, along with the Tiki Bar, located on the remains of the old Center Pier. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend staying at the Golden Sands if you're planning a visit to Carolina Beach.

Super place to stay. Friendly staff, comfortable room, nice amenities and great local restaurants. Easy access to the beach. Places to tour nearby. Room had 2 queen beds and pullout sofa that was great to give a child their own bed. Would definitely return.

The location is great and there is a tiki bar and grill in the same parking lot. The front desk staff at the hotel were super friendly & helpful! However, the hotel is in the process of remodeling the taller building (which is not noted anywhere on their site) and honestly, they weren't quite ready to release rooms for people to stay in. Well the room we stayed in anyway.. especially at the nightly rate that it was. We were on the 5th floor, ocean view, king room. And come to find out, we were the very first guest to stay in the newly renovated room. Everything looks like modern 70's retro and when looking at pictures of the room on their website, there are some major differences! Only one elevator was working. We get up to our room, it was very clean. The AC is supposed to be controlled by the thermostat on the wall. It would only work on the actual unit itself. It was also unplugged when we came in. There was no toilet paper. The phone didn't work. The right side outlet when facing the bed didn't work. The TV wasn't working. There was no remote control for the tv. The plastic was still on the TV and on the pull out couch mattress. There was no extra bedding for the pull out couch nor extra pillows. I went back down to the office, they gave me extra bedding but had to go get pillows from another room as they did not have any. They gave me toilet paper. One of them came to our room and fixed the tv for us, gave us a remote to use for the tv. The bathroom was missing tile (where a shower barrier would be), and there was no barrier for the walk-in shower. So when we took a shower, water made its way out of the shower onto the bathroom floor. We then we had to clean it up. After the first shower, we made our own barrier using extra towels we went down and got. There was not a sliding glass door to the shower like pictures show on their website. It was a cheap plastic shower curtain and no barrier to keep the water actually inside of the shower. So the shower was incomplete. Also, the water pressure in the shower isn't very strong. Hanging clothes.. I had to hang them on a shelf as the clothes rod is VERY low and there is maybe 9 inches between the bottom shelf and the rod to hang your clothes. The rod needs to be way higher. You wouldn't even be able to hang kids clothes there. There is no space. (The pictures on their website show the correct way.) I was very disappointed in the very much incomplete condition of our room at that nightly rate. Hopefully once they are actually done with the remodel, guest will not have the same experience as we did.

We purchased one room for us and one room for our daughter and grandkids. The main tower elevator was broken for the entire three nights. Our daughter and grandkids had to lug all their luggage and beach equipment up three flights of stairs. Their room was very small with no closet. The grounds are dirty and littered with trash. Our room was older with a bathroom door that would not shut unless you shoved it very hard. The restaurant food was okay, but very crowded. The internet in our room did not work two of our three night stay. The rooms were tired and needed small repairs. Their was no coffee service in the second tower where we stayed, only in the main tower. My overall impression of the facility and grounds was that it was not well maintained, rather dirty not at all attractive. There were quite a few smokers outside the buildings. On a positive note, the front desk personnel were very welcoming and friendly. We will not be staying there again.
