The Vagabond's House Boutique Inn

This is a nice and centrally located place, though not quite a full-service bed and breakfast. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, and the bathroom is updated with modern amenities, including wonderful heated floors. However, the carpet looks quite old, but the cozy fireplace in the room adds a lot of charm. For the price and location, this is still a good option. It’s located just north of Carmel’s main strip and only a short walk from the beach, making it a convenient spot. Breakfast consists of basic grocery store items, but the presentation, along with the various sides served in your room, makes it enjoyable. The only cooked item are the hard boiled eggs. Room service is the only option for breakfast, though it would have been nice to have 2 chairs in our room so we could both enjoy the food together. The front desk staff is friendly, but the level of service isn’t what you’d expect. Upon arrival, we were told our room was ready, but there had been a mix-up with housekeeping, and we were taken to a room that hadn’t been cleaned. Later, when I mentioned there was no parking available in their private lot, the staff member didn’t seem to care and suggested parking on the street, adding that it was unlikely we’d get a ticket. Another minor issue was with the breakfast request process. On the second day, when I asked for the order form slip, they said they’d just send the same meal as the day before, which didn't work for us since we didn't want the same items. The fruit served both at breakfast and during the wine and cheese hour was not very fresh, though the wine served during the 4-6 p.m. wine and cheese hour was excellent. Overall, I’m used to bed and breakfasts with freshly baked goods, amazing food, and great coffee, so perhaps that’s why I was slightly underwhelmed. However, this place still has a lot of charm, especially with its convenient location and cozy atmosphere.

Better than the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco Although this property does not have an onsite restaurant/ so no room service… I can honestly say this hotel has nicer accommodations than the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco!!! The bathroom was absolutely fantastic - huge stand alone bathtub, giant shower with a bench, heated floors!!! Separate toilet of course The room had its own Fireplace… beautiful and functional when it was cold and two very comfortable classy leather recliners to relax in after a day of walking around Carmel. I didn’t want to go back to our room at the Ritz it was so good. They also offer to deliver some fruit and croissants and coffee/tea/juice to your room in the morning. Just enough to help get you going. Great comforter/duvet and soft sheets… and the farm doors were so much fun and perfect for the weather. My kids loved to keep the top part open with the bottom closed and play in the courtyard with the beautiful water fountain and around the communal fireplace. Really great spot!! You won’t regret it.

Don’t be fooled by the name. This boutique vintage inn offers all the modern luxuries. Beautifully appointed rooms with all the bells and whistles (except AC, but it wasn’t a problem). Delicious breakfast (made to order) delivered every morning, lovely courtyard for winding down in the evening, great service from the staff. Walking distance to great shops, restaurants and Carmel beach. A real gem!

It was a comfortable stay but for the price point I expected more. The breakfast was mediocre and the service folks were not friendly. Will not be staying here again.

Fantastic place to stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea! Walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. The complimentary breakfast which is delivered to your room was a perfect way to start each day. The complimentary wine/cheese hour in the evening was delicious. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit which was a great gathering spot as we stayed with 2 other couples. Staff was attentive and helpful. The rooms had all the amenities we needed. The bed could have been a little more comfortable and pillows were a bit firm for our liking but that didn’t impact our sleep too much. Overall perfect place to stay. Can’t wait to come back!
