Hôtel le Donjon - Cœur de La Cité Médiévale

Petit hôtel sympathique qui mériterait des rénovations car le style fait assez vieux ou générique années 90. Le plus grand mystère : comment peut-il être 4* ? Le personnel est très cordial et à l’écoute de vos besoins. Très bon petit-déjeuner (même si on ne voit pas bien le 4*)

Chambre minuscule salle de bains vieillissante.. Le lit est un 120 .. pour 2 personnes c’est plus que juste !!! Et les cloches de l’horloge viennent gâcher le silence de la nuit. Service voiturier assuré indispensable compte tenu de l’emplacement dans la cité. La responsable gage fait à être plus agréable.

First the good part – the Hotel Le Donjon is, as expected, located in the heart of this wonderful medieval city. The staff are friendly and engaging. On entering the main body of the hotel, we noticed it is dark and had the feeling of being caught in a time warp, hinting at more prosperous days in the past. Perhaps none of this really matters. Our room was in an annexe overlooking a central courtyard garden, plenty of potential here. However, the room was dark with the only natural light coming from the entrance door. The cheap veneered furniture was heavily worn with abundant chips, marks and scuffs. The bed was not comfortable (sorry, but it really wasn’t) and the linen was nothing special. The blanket stored in the wardrobe was heavily stained. The biggest disappointment was the bathroom. The wall-mounted toilet pan was set so low it felt as though you are sitting on the floor. The tiling was dated and in poor condition. The shower was adapted from the bath taps with no self-regulating thermostat (remember, this is a 4 star hotel) and the sealant was mouldy in places. The biggest surprise was the flimsy plastic bath which caused us to wobble when standing under the shower, very disconcerting, I can tell you! There were other disappointments such as the courtesy tray not being replenished, but nothing major. So, overall, the Hotel Le Donjon is undoubtedly in a great location, but our room is crying out for refurbishment and upgrading. We suspect other rooms will fit into this category as well.

Situé en plein cœur de la cité médiévale, l'hôtel a un charme certain et raffiné. Chambres classiques climatisées et suffisamment spacieuses, literie confortable. Le petit-déjeuner est très complet et plusieurs choses proposées sont faites maison. Une belle adresse !

I am so happy we chose the Le Donjon. From the moment the lovely and professional David picked us and our luggage up in the parking lot to the moment he dropped us off, everything was perfect. The other people at the front desk (I am sorry I did not get their names) were also very helpful in recommending places to eat, which made an enormous difference. The room was small, but perfectly furnished with a vey comfortable bed, and a charming view. The soundproofing was superb, and we heard nothing except street sounds when our window was open. This was my third visit to Carcassonne, and will not be my last. I will happily book the Hotel Le Donjon again.

Hôtel idéalement placé au coeur de la cité. Ambiance raccord avec le site. Impératif prendre le parking avec service voiturier (24euros/ jour) Les chambres familiales sont très spacieuses donnent sur le jardin et ont table et chaises privatif en extérieur. Mobilier vieillot et plus très net. Literie très bonne. Petit déjeuner très complet. Personnel sympa et efficace. N'hésitez pas à profiter du jardin pour se faire servir une boisson, lire ... Un réel plus de cet hôtel.

Please do not use rooms no 16 (adjacent building) and 37 (main building). Both rooms were given to us as superior rooms (which we booked) but have little resemblance with the superior rooms shown in the hotels internet site, actually no resemblance. The rooms on internet look by far more desirable. The rooms given and their bathrooms have seen better days definitely. After the check-in, when addressed the front desk with this situation, they were unwilling and unable to remedy the situation by any means. They were not helpful at all, but just sorry. Since we had no other choice we had to stay there. But we will NOT return to this place again. It is not worth the money. We don’t recommend this place at all. The rating 2, I attributed for the correct parking and baggage service and the friendly clerk from Savoy at check out.

We had a lovely time at the Hôtel Le Donjon. Our room was in the annexe and was very quiet. Breakfast in the lovely sunny garden each morning was excellent and the staff were keen to help in whatever way they could. They organised a taxi to take us back to the airport and we and our luggage were driven down from the hotel via the ramparts to await our taxi in the other Cité Hotel just outside the walls. We ate at Chez Christine on our first night and the food was delicious- cassoulet is a must and the service impeccable.

We had hoped for a much better experience at this hotel. Our large family waited an hour for a taxi, despite notifying the hotel we would arrive and calling for a taxi from the train station. A single taxi could not accommodate all of us, so we were split into two groups, with each taxi arriving at a different location. Those in my taxi brought our bags directly to the hotel, but my wife's taxi dropped her in a place where she was directed to leave the bags carried in the taxi. It took over an hour for the bags to be delivered. My wife has left a review also acknowledging this problem. She made no complaint about the rooms, and referred to the hotel as beautiful. However, management portrayed her as seeking any small complaint as a means to compensation. This is an untrue and unfair portrayal. What remains problematic is the hotel's lack of customer-service mindset, and disinterest in solving what must be a persistent problem. For those who value this, seek lodging elsewhere.
