We stayed at Camps Bay last Saturday 22nd March. We had booked room 12 (where we also stayed in February) more than 8 months before. On arrival on 22 March, we were told by the receptionist/congierge that room 12 was occupied and we had to stay in room 7. We looked at room 7, found the room very small - half the size of room 12 - and with little privacy as the room is right in front of the start of the suspension bridge from where everyone can see inside. We then mentioned this to the congierge, but according to him, no other rooms were available. We reluctantly accepted room 7, where it also turned out that the room was so small that we had nowhere to put our luggage but at the entrance in front of the kitchenette (who need a kitchenette is the room??) so we left everything in the suitcase. We also found out that the shower did not work properly so that, amongst other things, water ran under the shower door. All in all, a dire disappointment and fiasco, especially as the 22nd March was my birthday. An expensive birthday present: ZAR 9710 or € 488 for a small room with flaws. Half the aforementioned amount would be more than enough. I reported the above the next day to Mrs. Erika du Toit. She said she found this very annoying and would find out where the Reservations Department had made a mistake. She also said that room 7 was indeed a lot smaller than room 12 and that she could imagine that we were extremely disappointed and found room 7 totally unworthy of the amount paid. To compensate, she offered me a discount on our next stay at one of the group's hotels, but that was of no use for me at that time. I indicated that a discount on the stay in room 7 was the least she could do. As mrs. Du Toit was temporarily working at Camps Bay Retreat, she promised me to take the matter up with Mr. Petro Munro, the hotel manager at Camps Bay Retreat who was at The Bay Hotel at the time and that I would here from her or from Mr. Munro as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday 25 March 2025. Unfortunately, I have never heard nothing from either Mrs. Du Toit or Mr. Munro. To our surprise, our travel agent, through whom our stay was booked, did receive a message/email from Camps Bay Retreat. This email stated that we had been offered an upgrade, i.e a room with a wood-fired hot tube. Very strange! Firstly we were never told anything about a so-called upgrade, secondly room 12 also had a wood-fired hot tube and thirdly, a room that is half the size of the room bood and with very little privacy is not exactly an upgrade, rather a downgrade!! P.s.: we do wonder if the hot tubes are that hygienic!
