Don’t be fooled by the social media posts. Read the trip advisor reviews - chaos and food poisoning aplenty. To start with a positive, some of the staff are incredibly hard working and attentive and deserve to be working in an establishment with better management. Upon arrival, the place looked great the grounds were very well kept. Cefalù (the town you can get to on the shuttle bus which you have to pay for) was amazing as I’m sure more of Scicily is. If you do end up there the architecture, streets and gelato was superb. It’s a shame grand palladium is so far away and isolated. When we arrived the first thing we were asked at reception was ‘I see you are here until 27th. What time are you leaving? As we are closing that day’. I was then asked to show our flight details to confirm we were leaving early! Odd way to begin a 5 star experience. Food poisoning: I got food poisoning one evening not long after eating at one of the restaurants. My partner went to report it to reception and coincidentally another guest was reporting her own illness after a meal in the same part of the hotel. You’d expect something from the receptionist but despite us listing what we ate she only took the room numbers and shrugged. (Pointless though, as no one checked on us). Check out the amount of food poisoning/sickness reviews, I wish I had before I booked. We witnessed first hand a member of staff not washing their hands after leaving the toilet cubicle, just unbelievable. The other guest’s son was also ill and whilst there she had more reports of sickness/illness from other guests! ‘It’s on the app!’ You need to download an app on the spot on arrival as ‘everything’s on the app!’ Whether checking in or at the a la carte restaurant you will need a phone there’s no instructions or menus anywhere and information needs to be worked for. I like to disconnect from my phone on holiday but that was not possible here and I had to take my phone everywhere. What cocktails do you do? ‘It’s on the app’ was the response! Immediately you see there’s no clear leadership taking charge or an understanding of why people might chose to holiday - relaxation and disconnecting. This is very much used as a conference centre more so than holiday resort (or it was when we were there) there was one for most of our stay where a huge business took over the bar and restaurant so much so that the staff were even more chaotic. We were not warned about this when booking, nor were we told it was the end of season which was apparent. We have stayed at all levels of hotels before and everyone usually knew the manager because they walk around and speak to guests daily ‘everything ok?’ ‘any issues speak to so and so ‘ etc. and at the five star you could see respect other staff had for the manager who was always about. Here, I couldn’t tell you if they even had a manager. Rooms: The shower has no power at all - quite the mission to wash out shampoo. We also had to ask for loo rolls (quite
