The Royal Hotel Campbeltown

Had a really good stay. Great location within Campbeltown with free on street parking and everything in walking distance. Room was spacious and slept well. There are a few minor cosmetic repairs needed such as torn curtains but this didn't affect our stay. Had a meal in the evening which was very nice and plenty of breakfast options in the morning. We would gladly stay again.

Stopped in here for lunch during a day trip. Very tired and dull looking however due to reading reviews we decided to order food. This was a bad decision! Starters were okay but the fish and chips were very poor. Fish was tasteless and chips I'm sure were reheats. Considering the supply of fresh fish in the area I would have expected this dish to be excellent. Very disappointing. Young waitresses although young were friendly enough but did lack hospitality experience.

Untrained young staff who are quite frankly rude and lack the basics of simple training. I'm local, and this week's visit was my last try out of six (I believe in more than 2nd chances), and I'll never go in again and I bring a lot of family and friends who are on holiday. This visit we sat for 12 MINUTES! with no greeting whatsoever. One waitress was behind the bar and saw us, no acknowledgement. There was a table of eight and two tables of two, middle of the afternoon, so not busy by any means. If they were delayed, all it would have taken was a simple polite hello and we'll be right with you. We walked out. The other visits have been increasingly on getting my ire up with lack of friendliness. Went in one day for coffee and scones and she said, I have no cups. Excuse me??? When this place opened, it was brilliant with well trained staff and I loved taking people here. The scones are the best in town. This week I have officially given up until I hear from locals that it is good again. I do not like rating a local place like this, but it is getting ridiculous.

Das Hotel Royal war einmal, im letzten Jahrtausend, ein echtes Bijou der Tophotellerie. Einige Details erinnern noch an diese glanzvolle Zeit. Die Suite zum Meer ist geräumig, mit Kamin und schönen alten Möbeln. Das Bad modern im alten Stil und alles ist sauber. Wir haben bekommen, was wir erwartet haben. Der Empfang war etwas ruppig und wenig freundlich, alle weiteren Mitarbeitenden in Hotel, Restaurant und Pub waren aber allesamt freundlich. Das Essen, Frühstück sowie insgesamt Preis/Leistung waren die schlechtesten auf unserem Roadtrip durch die Highlands. Ich kann das Restaurant also nur bedingt empfehlen und würde nächstes Mal aufs Frühstück verzichten. Das Hotel ist am Ort sicherlich das beste. Verglichen mit anderen Häusern, die wir in den Highlands angetroffen haben, kann es jedoch nicht ganz mithalten, ist aber trotzdem zu empfehlen. Es hat sehr viele einheimische Gäste, sowohl im Restaurant als auch im Hotel, was ja für sich spricht.

Direkt am Hafen in Campbeltown gelegenes typisch schottisches Hotel mit verwinkelten Gängen, gemütlich eingerichteten Zimmern und ansprechendem Frühstücksraum. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit. Der Blick auf den Hafen und den kleinen Ort zauberhaft.

The hotel is in an excellent location. Our room was great but the rest of our experience was underwhelming. No muesli at breakfast and they ran out of china cups and asked us to use paper takeaway cups. Dinner menu very "pub grub". Black Sheep bar closed 22.30 first evening and before 22.00 on second evening. Overall a nice bunch of young people who seemed to lack training and direction. Not what you would expect from a hotel where rooms are around £250 per night.
