Somy Plaza Calangute Goa - Formerly Somy Resort

We can only write about Somy Plaza in positive terms. Having experienced stays in many hotels in India over three decades we feel justified in doing this. On our first visit to Somy Plaza we found the ambience, upkeep and service to be faultless. This high standard has been maintained in all areas on two subsequent visits. The staff team - led by their approachable and inspirational manager, Paul, who sets and expects the highest standards of care for the guests - are competent, friendly and helpful - always willing to give of their best.* One of the delights of staying at Somy Plaza is the extensive buffet breakfast with a wide variety of delicious Indian and crossover dishes, which are varied every day, as well as eggs, local specialties and even pancakes cooked to order. There are many healthy options which can be put together including different fruits and juices and detox drinks which are varied every day. The evening restaurant menu has delicious and imaginative dishes, is reasonably priced and bears comparison with the more sophisticated and fashionable venues in the area. The delicate flavour and immaculate texture of the traditional British seaside Fish in Batter matches up to anything from a specialist fish frier (including a Yorkshireman in Cambodia) although a few more chips would not go amiss! The Pavilion restaurant and the outside areas around the pool lend themselves to a choice of dining experiences with a variety of musical entertainment - Indian traditional on Sundays then modern and karaoke on alternate evenings. Over all our stays the rooms were cleaned meticulously with sheets and towels changed daily on request by the friendly and courteous staff. One evening when a bedside light failed causing a loss of power in our room, the fault was rectified by a young electrician on standby who identified and dealt with the issue immediately and literally on the run! In over 30 years of visiting and working in India we have never seen an issue in a hotel dealt with so quickly, effectively and efficiently but that’s the way it is at Somy Plaza! * One of the friends who visited us there for dinner wanted to add this comment to the review: “A point I might add is the friendliness of the guard at the gate. This creates the impression (rightly) that it is a securely guarded complex, yet at the same time he is very amicable and approachable and guides visitors to the Reception area. Also, for a visitor the Reception staff go over and above their role to help you and make you feel at home.”

Just come back from the somy plaza,spent a month there,everything at hotel was great,all the staff,from the room boys to the management were lovely,centrally located a lovely clean hotel,one of the best we have stayed in, in the 13 years of goa,great hotel,will be back

Nice place over run with cats and kittens in restaurant area jumping on tables and urinating really bad situation shame really when tell staff they just laugh shame as looks a nice place at first glance. Food was nice tho but not for me with cats

So I have just arrived home from 2 weeks here, I can't recommend this hotel enough it is Brilliant in every way the check in was quick, rooms very very clean I was in room 912 the cleaner was spot on every day, I'm sure our bed sheets were changed daily by him,he decorated my room as hubby 70th birthday the hotel provided a cake free of charge it was delishious..the manager well what a lovely guy, coming around the pool shaking everyone's hand checking all well what a lovely touch. The staff are always there if you need them but quietly out of the way if you don't. The pool is refreshing,the food nice if you choose to eat there..plenty of choice at breakfast, they have evening entertainment if you choose to stay in.. I can not find one fault with this gem of a hotel, I will definitely return here if I'm in Calengute, I wouldn't stay anywhere else...clean, friendly, and so very helpful. If I had a tip for the hotel it would be to section smokers and no smokers around the pool or.. make a smoking area..other hotels have done this it foes work... the reason is as a non smoker I put towels by the entrance one day and they were removed after a certain time which I definitely agree with ..but the only bed avaliable was in-between 2 lots of chain smokers..I had to leave, it make me feel sick... shame as this is the only thing that annoyed me in 2 weeks... I think smokers need to be more aware that not everybody wants breath passive smoke.. that said..however it wouldn't stop me going to this wonderful hotel again... well done to everyone who works there you are an amazing team xxx cya next year

This hotel is one of the best we've stayed at in Goa! The staff are all very friendly and it is all very clean. The floor around the tables at the pool could benefit from a jet wash now and then. The pool area is fantastic! There were plenty of sunbeds. They could fit in another 5 without making it too tight. It's a shame some Brits still feel the need to reserve beds so much. It's very selfish! We arrived one day at noon, all beds taken, 4 had towels, not used. People left and a few became available, at 14:30, those 4 people came back! 2 and a half hours!! We were upgraded to a front facing, premier room. It had a living room with a fan a fridge/kettle and with a balcony, a big dressing area with a fan, a bathroom with a fan and a very good shower, and a bedroom with a balcony and AC and a fan. The l living room was unusable as it was too hot, the fan was not able to cool the air. Had there been AC, I think the hotel would have been as close to perfect as it could be!! The location is great for walking to bars, restaurants etc. We would definitely recommend it!

We have stayed her a few times now and is our favourite hotel in Goa Paul the manager is a very nice guy (thank you Paul for advice when my wife banged her chin) Alll the staff there are really nice and friendly so no special mentions this time Paul has a good team Rooms cleaned every day , food , drinks entertainment and pool all very good I used the kingfisher shop just outside the gate to change money and found the *** there to be very helpful he has a good name (Cash) Taxi drivers outside also friendly We had a really good 4 weeks stay and will be back again John
