Sports are available to watch on the big screens, just ask our lovely bar staff what we have available. There are also pool tables and dart boards available for customer use.
We are a live venue and we hold many CONCERTS, just visit our Facebook for more info on who's coming to TOWN! As well as live bands EVERY weekend.
Located only 2 minutes from all the major shopping center's, city attractions, nightclubs, and the Lagoon! The Jack is the PERFECT place for travelers wanting to visit the GREAT BARRIER REEF and the DAINTREE RAINFOREST. Our travel desk offers great DISCOUNTS and local knowledge.
Please be aware that The Jack Backpackers is a licensed venue. Live entertainment can be heard in the beer garden from 6pm until 2am, mainly on weekends.
Reception open hours: 9.00am - 19:00pm
If you are planning a late check-in after 19:00 pm. Please call our friendly reception team at your earliest convenience to arrange a late check in. Please also note that The Jack Backpackers is a international hostel and only accepts booking with a valid International passport and credit card will be required upon check-in. Please note that there is a surcharge of minimum 1.40% when paying with Eftpos. The Jack Backpackers is unsuitable for people under the age of 18. Bookings made by any guests under the age of 18 will not be accepted and will be asked to cancel the booking.
The Jack Backpackers is a International Youth Hostel and only accepts bookings with a valid International passport.
Credit card will be required upon check-in. All Dorms are exclusively available for International guests. Private rooms are available for non internationals guests.
House Rules:
Check in at 14:00pm and Check out 11:00am
Curfew is a 22:00pm as we need to be respectful towards all our guests that may have tours booked or work the following day. NO NOISE.

I didn't stay here but the pub is around the corner from my hotel. Food is reasonably priced and delicious. T-bone specoal.on tuesdays is a bargain. Staff are very friendly and food is quick. Different seating areas for different tastes. Staff need to learn about wine (I had to explain to a bartender that she wouldn't find Shiraz in the bar fridge and that Cabernet Sauvignon is a type of wine).

La posizione è ottima e vicina a tutto, prezzo basso. Il problema è che è poco pulito, i servizi fanno pena. Tipo in cucina mancano tutti gli utensili, le aree comuni sono sporche, i bagni erano mezzi rotti e solo 1 su 5 aveva la carta igienica. Letti molto scomodi...un gran peccato perché ci sarebbe del potenziale

Terrible food. My friend ordered a pizza and I ordered the vegan schnitzel. The pizza was just slop, way too much sauce and all the toppings just slid off. The amount of bbq sauce on top was sickening. I’m almost 100% certain I was given the chicken schnitzel instead of the vegan one. I’ve never eaten meat before but I’m familiar with vegan meats and the texture and taste weren’t anything like the vegan schnitzels you can buy. My chips were cold and the salad was dry without any dressing. I left most of what was on my plate. Absolute rip-off in price for what we got and as locals, we certainly won’t be eating here again. There are so many better food options in the city with much higher quality for a similar price, if not cheaper.

Bad experience, some people were making noise all night from 11 pm and at 7 am they still making noise in the balcony, so I can’t sleep, ther are more options to stat in Cairns, so don’t. choose this hostel.

Overall our experience was Crap!!!! Stay away from the steak burgers, the meat is like leather and will break a tooth. The owner is deluded and couldn't care less!!! As locals we frequent many bars throughout Cairns, this won't be one of em anymore!!!

One of the cleanest hostels we have stayed in, the housekeeping and staff were super friendly and cleaned the room everyday, the showers and bathrooms were also of a very high standard and always clean. Super chilled vibe in the hostel, lounge area with Netflix and a big outdoor balcony with seating area. We will be back!

What can we say about the Jack? My friend and I have stayed here on many occasions and we can’t express how wonderful the staff have been to us every time. The manager Harriet has been so accommodating to us she is an absolute star! The reason why we keep coming back is mainly due to the wonderful service we’ve received. The facilities are clean and the kitchen is cleaned daily. Being new to backpacking I was a bit skeptical about sharing my space with others however coming here has been a wonders experience. The sports bar below is also very accommodating for their guest - an extra bonus you get discount on food and drinks when you show them your key! If your up for a boogey and a sing along on the weekends this is the place to be. Sometimes it may get a little loud in the evenings if you’re in for an early night but it’s worth it - you can hear great live music from your balcony before you head off to bed. Overall our stay here has been amazing and my friend and I keep extending our stay. We highly recommend!

Es hat uns hier leider garnicht gefallen. Es ist das günstigste Hostel In Cairns und das merkt man auch. Wir hatten Probleme mit den Schlüsseln die Rezeptionistin war bei diesem Problem nicht wirklich hilfreich. Die Zimmertür auf zu bekommen war quasi eine 50/50 Chance. Die Tür um in den Hof zu kommen bekamen wir garnucht auf da der passende Schlüssel fehlte. Zum Glück konnten uns andere Gäste die Tür öffnen. Die Sitzgelegenheiten auf der Terasse und dem TV Bereich sind sehr stark abgenutzt, siffig und eklig! Die Duschen auf den Zimmer sind mega niedrig installiert. Wir würden empfehlen ein anderes Hostel zu buchen!

It is a very friendly and lively hostel and you settle in very quickly, especially the lady at the reception is nice and helpful if you have questions about tour offers and all about Cairns! Very good food offers in the restaurant which also change daily and are very tasty! There are also good musicians at the weekend at the bar the mood really brightens up! The hostel is highly recommended! Cheers, Janik
