Gorilla Heights Lodge

Hele mooie accommodatie, zeer mooie Lodge met heerlijk bed waar s'avonds een warmwaterkruik in het bed werd gelegd zodat je in een warm bed kon kruipen, heerlijk ❤️ Het eten was dank zij David de Chefkok overheerlijk en zeer mooi gepresenteerd. We hadden ook een heerlijke massage door gouden handen 🤗 Alle personeelsleden waren zeer vriendelijk. Na onze vermoeiende Gorilla tocht stonden ze klaar om onze schoenen aan te nemen en s'avonds stonden deze netjes gepoetst terug op onze kamer. Ook het uitzicht was adembenemend! We zullen deze plaats niet vlug vergeten!

We had an amazing stay at Gorilla Heights Lodge for our honeymoon! Our room was huge and clean, with a beautiful balcony view over the forest. We loved hanging out by the pool after gorilla trekking, apparently one of the only lodges in the area with a pool! Enjoying the sauna and steam room was a nice way to end the day! The staff made it even more amazing, so helpful and friendly! We’d highly recommend Gorilla Heights Lodge!

The photos for this resort are nearly accurate but can’t possibly show the quality craftsmanship of the lodge nor the breathtaking views. The rooms are expansive and luxurious and the views from your three balconies are just spectacular. The welcome from the staff was lovely including some fresh watermelon juice and a hand massage. There are complimentary drinks and a fridge in the rooms. They greeted us after our trek with slippers and took our hiking boots to be cleaned. The food at the restaurant was delicious with some delightful soups and well presented entrees. The staff were all kind and welcoming and willing to help in any way. We had a talk by a gorilla doctor on the deck as part of our tour and the lodge brought out warm salted nuts and popcorn along with a heater and blankets to ensure our comfort. They think of all the little details and truly make you feel pampered. The manager Celestine is available to routinely checking in with guests to ensure our comfort. It was an amazing experience.

The road to Gorilla lodge is beautiful and absolutely well worth the arrival. As its very high in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and very close to the Gorilla experience, its to be expected to be a bit bumpy but that is part of being in Africa. And the arrival makes it all worth it. Celstine Masiga is the GM and was on hand to greet the group together with the smiling staff (everyone smiles in Uganda) and warm hot towels and a fabulous dinner prepared by a seasoned Chef of many years. Our chalets were breathtaking and the view across the valley is something that you can consider unforgettable. I never closed my doors because it meant I could not see the sun rise or sun set. Its very close (2km) to the Gorilla experience and it means that after your vertical climb to see these incredible animals, you can return early enough to enjoy your chalet and all it has to offer. From the outside bath to the kingsize bed which has a hotwater bottle to warm those toes, from the large spacious bathroom and shower to the well appointed kitchen (I was booked into a villa), I didn't want to go home. The restaurant and lounge area is beautifully decorated and easy to have your meals and spend time on the spacious balcony bar. In the dry months, there are sundowners on a hill nearby and an unforgettable moment. There are a million stars at night that can be seen from the Lodge. Not only do they work together with the community but they support them too. Buying local vegetables, supplying water from their 1 million litre tank to families near by, Most of the crafts sold in the craft shop in the lodge, are from the locals and those that are not made locally - the give 20% to the community. They use solar for sustainability and 90% of the staff is local. They have also been involved in the rehoming of the pygmy tribe called the Batour to ensure their survival. So when you book into this amazing lodge, you support an entire community. You can also fly into the local airport and there is a transfer that will collect you and return you to the airport. Definitely a lodge to return to on every possible occasion!

Gorilla Heights Lodge is located less than ten minutes from the base camp for gorilla tracking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda- which already gives it a leg up! The lodge is beautiful and boutique- only 14 residences. Our cottage was massive- easily 2,000 sq ft- and came with all modern amenities, including A/C, heat, wifi, a smart TV, etc. There was a kitchen in our lodge which was nice- but no dishes, glasses, flatware. It was too cold during our visit to utilize the pool area, but it is beautiful. We did, however, visit the spa. We truly enjoyed decompressing after our long gorilla trek in both the steam room and the sauna! The highlight (for us) was probably the fact that they slip hot water bottles into your bed during turndown, so you come home to a warm bed!! Meals were wonderful, though meal service does take some time. Views, of course, abound. Highly recommend and big thanks to Frederick and his team for being so welcoming!

The hotel is fantastically situated and is absolutely amazing. The rooms, the views, the service, the food and the overall hospitality is top notch. It’s definitely a must stay hotel when one visits Bwindi
