The George Hotel

We spent one night in this lovely hotel. The room was extremely spacious, comfortable and very clean. The family-run hotel is managed with care and attention to detail. The hotel has recently been renovated. The service is both friendly and professional. Dinner and breakfast were tasty, with well-prepared dishes.

Table for two at 1.45 for Sunday lunch. Waitress who seated us advised they were running late on food but wouldn't be long. Restaurant very busy. 5mins and we were asked for drinks order which arrived quite quickly.with menu. 10 mins later ordering taken - 2 x.beef roast. Husband asked for med. Rare and me for rare. We waited 50 mins in.all. At some point someone put a plate with two hunks of bread and some butter on the table - home made bread. At no point did anyone come to us and apologise for the wait or ask if we were ok for drinks. At 2.50 when we had almost decided to leave food arrived. My beef was far from rare (husband's med rare ok and he enjoyed his meal). My husband called waitress over and complained - I was immediately offered a new meal I declined as I had eaten my veg. while waiting and it was gone 3 o'clock. I was brought two lovely slices of rare beef but too late then! We are local folk but sadly won't be back. Your service staff are mostly very young and generally pleasant but many desperately in need of training.

The George is a fabulous surprise! Really super decoration throughout, which is matched by very good service , both friendly and prompt. The bedroom was large and the bed was so comfortable , we had two nights here and slept so well. Shame not to have a walk in shower which would suit the styling more and also feels safer. The bar is very good and the breakfast area and service were good too. One thing...they can't make porridge! But with that in mind just avoid as the rest is super. We would certainly stay here again .

We had been asked by our dearest friends to choose a place where we could enjoy an evening out to celebrate their upcoming wedding. The George has a wonderful ambience however our expectations fell when short when it came to our dinning experience. Firstly the menu did not contain what had be advertised on their online menu we were told by the waitress that the online menu was just a 'sample' menu ??? When the food was served the cod a chips was served stone cold and had to be returned extremely embarrassing for my wife who had suggested we dine there. All i can say is thank you to Jack who felt our embarrassment and could not have been more professional in dealing with our situation. Sadly i would find it difficult to return or indeed to reccomend to friends or family.

Stayed at the George on Sunday for 1 night. We received a lovely welcome and were shown to our room by a lovely lady. (sorry we did not get your name) The lady also took our Breakfast order. The breakfast was amazing and great quality. Our room was very clean and bright with great decor. Our entire experience at the George was 10 out of 10. Would love to stay again. A final thank you to the amazing staff!

This is a review of the restaurant. The conservatory is light and pleasant, and the menu is decent; pricing is par for the course at present (£133 two people, nibbles, starter, steak, coffee, aperitif and bottle of basic wine). We were received by a server who was unwilling to communicate but we went with the flow. You get bread and butter before the starters come, but the butter is straight out of the fridge and won't spread on the soft bread. One of our ordered items failed to come and we had to chase it. I found the sirloin steak rather chewy and left 50% of it. I have a back problem and the low-backed chairs lead to back pain; I asked the proprietor if a higher backed chair might be available next time, if I forewarn them. Apparently this will not be possible.
