Monarch Hotel

My Mum and I had a great stay last week. I would like to thank all the staff & management for looking after us when My Mum had a fall on cobblestones in York. They arranged room service for us when we got back to the hotel at 2.00am the next day from the hospital, made sure we were comfortable. Nice big room, comfy bed and nice food. Could have more choice at Breakfast, like bananas, crossaints & fruit yoghurt, Cheese etc.

Basically this hotel is OK Not situated in the most enviable position for the less mobile as it is a little way out of town Our room was clean and comfortable and it looked like it had been updated The food fell into two halves, breakfast was OK but dinner was a bit hit and miss. If you like carrots then this is the place for you but they come in big chunks, so perhaps not Also the chef doesn't like peeling potatoes, which I just find lazy and one evening they were billed as crushed potatoes which meant they were mashed with the skins on, so I got fed up picking the skins out but you get what you pay for. Staff were very good and the manager is quite friendly. Sorting the standard of food out would be a great improvement

Home from home very clean bedrooms great location friendly professional staff great food in restaurant no long waits nice walk into town plus if you go the old town is a must visit this is a lovely hotel and I felt so comfortable here well done everyone

Recently completed our third New Year break at the Monarch Hotel and as on previous occasions we enjoyed our stay. Remembered by staff on reception we were made to feel welcome from the time we arrived. As we have come to expect our room was clean and comfortable. Likewise the food was to a very good standard. Entertainment was provided each evening of our stay. New Years Eve is worth a mention with an excellent buffet being provided late in the evening. New Years Day lunch was also provided as well as the usual half board meals. Very well fed over the period of our stay. During all our stays at the Monarch staff and management have always shown themselves to be friendly and helpful. Another very enjoyable New Year.

Nice hotel on this occasion I felt let down by alfa travel as this 5 day break was booked & paid for over 1 ½ years ago it was booked and paid in full as a single room i did ask to be near a lift on a low floor so when my travel tickets came I thought I would just phone the monarch to find out exactly what floor i was on so spoak to Alex the Hotel manager & was told i was on the top floor 6th But the lift only went to 5 then had to walk up the stairs to the room so I told him this was no Good to me as I use a waker & can't use stairs to be told that this hotel only has 1 single room in the whole hotel and he said I would be better to phone alfa and he's mentioned to head office a few time to advise customers of this when booking a room anyway i did & a nice lady in the alfa office Sheila i believe her name is was very helpful & after contacting the Monarch & spoken to Alex got me a cosy double room with a View which was a nice room with a good view of the sea & was on the 3rd floor near to the lift after all the Problems at 1st was sorted out then all the rest was brilliant Food hot food good only 1 draw. Back at meal Tim's was we was on the second sitting and was made to feel they was rushing to move the tables off the dance floor this was the table me & my 6 friends was on & every night we was again RUSHED to get our food and to get out even before you had finished they attempted to take our plates before we had finished So wrong ! And just 1 more gripe we was told by a member of staff that alfa are doing away with all SINGLE ROOMS and passing them off as COSY DOUBLES at an extra £80-00 on top of your fee for a 5day tour we'll a 3day holiday & 2 days travelling there & back so if you are single person and you was on ur own then put £80-00 on to your bill as they are going to be same in all alfa holidays so single persons penalised yes the no supplements to pay all 2025 but the price gone up so it looks i won't be going
