We stayed at Mercure Hida Takayama during our road trip in Takayama and it was a great choice. The location is very convenient — just a few minutes’ walk from JR Takayama Station and close to many restaurants. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable. After a long day of driving and sightseeing, the public bath on the top floor was perfect for relaxing. The hotel felt new and well maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the overall experience was smooth and pleasant. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Takayama. Would definitely stay here again!!

The location is unbeatable—just a short walk from Takayama Station, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the old town, morning markets, and nearby attractions. The rooms are modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind. Despite being close to the station, the rooms are surprisingly quiet, allowing for a peaceful night’s rest. The bed was very comfortable, and the amenities provided made the stay feel smooth and relaxing. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready with recommendations for food and sightseeing around Takayama. Their hospitality really made the experience feel welcoming. Overall, Relax Hotel Takayama Station offers great value with excellent comfort and convenience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Takayama—whether for sightseeing or a short stopover. enjoyed our stay in takayama ouan with my family! the rooms are spacious for japan standards and i like how the hotel is full tatami so we can comfortably walk around barefoot or with just socks! free socks provided and unlimited pillows. the open air bath was great and there’s sauna and cold bath too. free ramen at night was delicious, breakfast was great too. won’t hesitate to book this hotel again next time!

The quality of the hotel is very high. It's conveniently located near the train station and a 15 minute walk to the old town. The spa is really nice, clean, and spacious. The family spa is a nice touch. Rooms are very large, comfortable beds, with a tub. The only drawback is breakfast. The restaurant is too small to accommodate guests. It's odd that it's common in Japan to have large hotels, with many guests, include breakfast, and then build a tiny restaurant. Makes no sense. Options are limited and food is the same every day. I wouldn't recommend it, but there's so few options nearby or in the town in general, that you basically have to eat there. Just go before 8 AM. Otherwise, the hotel is really nice.

Just had an amazing time in this ryokan with a friend. The public bathroom in the open air - incredible, big, and also a lot of steam, along with the lighting of the lanterns, gives an incredible onsen-vibe! (But it was closed for cleaning at midnight, and not at one in the morning, as written in the brochure). There is also a sauna with a cold bath. After onsen, you can drink milk for free or eat ice cream from frozen juice. There is a separate paid lounge with unlimited beer, wine and whiskey. Private bathrooms are not bad, but not like public ones, plus they were constantly occupied by couples. The bath in the room itself is also not bad, but if you are tall, there may be problems with where to put your feet x) Dinner and breakfast were amazingly tasty. I especially liked the space on the street by the fire, where you can fry marshmallows or just sit after onsen to cool off with a strong drink) During the day we ride to Kamikochi, also a fantastic place)

The hotel is perfect if you are driving around the region. It has free parking. Location is not in the center, but just 8min away driving. They also have a shuttle that takes you there. Room is spacious (as for Japanese standards).

What an amazing hotel. First of all it is located in an amazing location very close to the bus station. Very close to ski places. As a hotel has onsens where you can relax. This was not very clear to the description, so I mention it here in the comment. Keep in mind that because the onsens are not for private use men and women are separated. The hotel was providing kimonos for men and women and sandals. It was super clean and we spent 2 nights, 3 days of our trip there where we fully relaxed while enjoying the hotel and the area like visiting takayama which is very close. The breakfast was very nice, and the dinner was a buffet. We didn't book in advance dinner but we had the option to pay extra so we enjoyed both nights the dinner, which was very good.

This was such a lovely place to stay. The room was nice and spacious, allowing us to feel at home. Not only were we taken care of by means of beautiful breakfast and dinner, but the staff were extremely helpful when we talked to them about hiking in Kamokochi. I would highly recommend booking this place especially with a meal plan, since it was nice to have food sorted after Hiking all day.
