"This is very good for a 3-star hotel at the price charged, and the management has taken steps to rectify some of the problems mentioned in other reviews. My wife and I were in a standard twin room which has been recently refurbished. The room was simple but had new furniture, carpet and bathroom suite and was pleasantly decorated. The mattresses were comfortable. The buffet breakfast offered a good choice, but the sausages could have been of better quality. There was entertainment in the form of different solo vocalists every evening starting at 8.00pm. This was slanted toward an older clientele (centring mainly on coach parties), and many have limited appeal to younger customers. The bar prices were fairly average, with a 2 for 1 offer for the coach parties (not us). The big criticism many reviewers have of hotel internet has been addressed and there was good free internet in our room with a download speed in excess of 20 meg. There is no dedicated car park, but ample unresticted street parking all around the hotel, certainly at this time of the year. There is a rear hotel entrance adjacent to the coach car part that is only about 300 metres from the seas frong. The Babbacombe cliff railway is only a futher 100 metres away. Also close to this rear entrance is a Tesco Express. There are several restaurants and pubs within walking distance, as is Plainmoor, the home of Torquay United. We felt that the downsides were minor but some customers may miss having a room fridge or in room safe, and as mentioned the breakfast could be improved with quality sausages and grilled rather than tinned tomatoes. One oddity in our room was that a mains power outlet next to the tea/coffee tray had had a blanking plate fitted, when a 13 amp socket would have made it possible to use the kettle in that position (looks like a very easy fix if management read this)."

"Big problems at check in but this was actually trip.coms faulty for not confirming booking with hotel. Trip.com happy to take my money first had to complaint against trip.com the compensated me but with a fight. Location good you get breakfast included don't expect anything special. Like no round eggs. Torquay is quite expensive so alcohol and drinks prices at the hotel high. You can walk to marina in 5 minutes. No car parking so if you want parking be prepared to walk"

"Great location just a short walk away from the pier and 10-15 min drive from Babbacombe. Clean, cozy rooms with nice shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. Fantastic, freshly made delicious breakfasts. Thank you Jonathan & Sade for such a pleasant stay!"

"Lots of not great reviews out there but I found the hotel nice. The hotel is well placed, clean and staff are courteous. We stayed in a family room (316) and were very happy. It was spacious and clean and even had a separate connecting room should you have needed it. Wifi was very good allowing me to stream Netflix. Breakfast was good, self-service with a nice selection of hot and cold. Two rows of hot food so that you didn't have to wait for a replenishment. Bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, hashbrowns, beans and tomatoes. Continental - toast, mini-croissants, yoghurt, fruit compote, good selection of cereals. Breakfast is £10 adult and £7.95 for kids. I thought it was a little pricey for my 5 year old who only had a slice of toast and a bowl of cereal. It would be nice for them to offer a free breakfast for under 5's with a paying adult. Downside - management really need to update the reception toilets - the peeling plaster and movement sensitive lights at the end of the dark corridor are slightly reminiscent of a Steven King novel) No parking, but there is plenty near by and that is to be expected in a central hotel right by the shops/restaurants. I would recommend it."

"We booked a 1 night stay for New Years Eve and were very happy with everything. The room with a view was lovely . Warm & with tea coffee facilities & a comfy bed. The staff were all very friendly & accommodating and breakfast was plentiful in a lovely dining area with fab views. My only small grumbles would be that the furniture in the room needs an upgrade and there was a £10 charge for the car park ."

"The spa is incredible, so relaxing. Ideal location with about 10 mins walk to Harbour and to Meadfoot beach. Breakfast was on the small side but tasty. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are okay, clean, but for 4* I’d expect a bit more like an iron in the room, toiletries, wash cloths etc. Didn’t sleep that well unfortunately as was woken up by people coming back to room as doors are loud and corridor floors are creaky. This let it down, but I’d return for the spa experience!"

"If you are not sure where to stay - don’t waste any time looking elsewhere, I can 100% recommend staying at Arran Lodge. We were so impressed with how well we were looked after, a clean and kept room with everything you might possibly need, including a welcome treat - homemade cake, space to park the car outside the house, a welcome reception and the most wonderful breakfast choice! Staying here was a treat and will definitely be back! Thank you for being such great hosts! Anna and Chris"
