Whilst the villa was nice, meeting the owner was a real interesting experience. Myself and some friends rented one of the villa’s for 5 nights in November. One morning, I was minding my business, making my way towards the beach.. I get stared at by some woman, I ignore it and carry on walking, she then makes dialogue; ‘erm, excuse me.. are you staying here? You have to be a guest to walk around here’ To which I simply asked ‘what makes you think I’m not a guest here?’ She repeats her self; ‘You must be a guest to walk around here. Which villa are you staying in then?’ There’s 2 issues here; 1) assuming I’m not a guest for reasons only she’s privy to 2) if you genuinely wanted to know whether I was a guest or not, there’s a manner of which you behave in matters like this. The very basics of customer service. She should have introduced herself as the owner of the complex and asked the question in a way where it’s not fuelled by assumptions. Assumptions that are only based on her misconceptions. I dealt with it well but if it was anyone else, they may have not been so kind. Regardless, I later find out that she’s the owner. A Swedish lady who also has her own villa on site. I’m not sure how things are now in parts of Sweden but where I’m from (London), ethnic minorities can indeed afford the nicer things in life. So yeah, some causal discrimination / xenophobia. Hopefully she educates herself on how to deal with guests going forward. Disappointing.
