The Hummingbird

Highly recommended – great location on the beach; a few mins drive from town but a real ‘off-the-grid’ vibe from those looking for peace & quiet. Room was good; lack of AC was not an issue for sleeping as it was cool at night (might be more of a concern if you were planning to spend time in the room during the day, but why would you in such a beautiful location?). Nice pool and pretty quiet the whole time we were there as there are only a few rooms/guests. Food for lunch & dinner was very good; if we had one niggle it would be the breakfast which was pretty basic and not geared up for vegetarians (one of us is vegetarian and was initially just offered toast for breakfast one morning). Olivia the manager was fantastically helpful when we had issues with a cancelled flight and were being given the run-around by the airline.

We enjoyed our 3 night relaxed stay. This was our designated chill out time in the middle of our quite active trip and we did exactly that. The location is lovely - set on beautifully planted grounds with pretty little gardens and short paths into the forest to wander on and make spotting monkeys, sloth, toucan, hummingbird and other birds and butterflies easy. We could spot them right from our rooms deck as well as from various paths and the restaurant and pool area.  The breakfasts were delicious (especially the pancakes) and all the tuna and steak dinner dishes stood out as excellent. Though we didn't really rate the juices and cocktails that highly.  The much reviewed owners weren't there when we were, but they did help us a lot in advance with planning our trip and recommendations which we were very grateful for - and their advice was spot on. The staff on site were all friendly and helpful and the guy looking after the gardens does great work.  The room was very comfortable and had really great bedsheets(!) as well as comfortable facilities so we felt very comfortable in the jungle. It was nice to fall asleep to sounds of crashing waves and wake to the morning routine of the birds and monkeys.  We generally just hung around the hotel for our stay watching the wildlife and popped to bombom beach bar a couple of times too.  A great place to relax. 

Owners are very friendly and helpful. Staff was great. Room was awesome. Great beach. Saw monkeys. Will definitely come again.

Betsy and gary run an incredible hotel with stunning surroundings and excellent staff. They provided anything we needed. Great food for breakfast and dinner, a beautiful property to see all kinds of flora and animals, Including monkeys. They also were able to arrange transportation for us when our flight changed last minute. Couldnt recommend this place enough. Beautiful and comfortable.

Wonderful place Awesome. Incredible hosts and staff. Originally we were going to stay 5 days and move on but decided to stay another 5. We woke each morning to howler monkeys and wild parrots greeting the day. Food is great and the service friendly and attentive. We will be coming back. Place is off the grid but you really couldn’t tell other than no AC but the rooms have fans and we had no problem sleeping. Highly recommend Hummingbird

Excellent place to stay We were a group of friends staying for 4 nights and we absolutely loved this place. Betsy and team were incredible, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent (breakfast and dinner) and great cocktails! The rooms are amazing - never slept so well.
