Talbot House

after booking for a family weekend back in april we arrived to find we had no rooms although they had already been happy to take more than half the cost upfront!! as a result the family was sadly split into separate hotels not at all what we had planned or wanted. my advice would be to avoid!! we still have not received any kind of refund nor did we get a apology on the day!!

Firstly I felt somewhat disappointed when I arrived! Photos of the rooms have been vastly exaggerated to make it look better that it actually is. On arrival stood waiting in rain to be let in as door was locked, waited for what seem like ages! First tjingni noticed in reception area is the smell of damp which follows you up the stairs and was definitely in the room we stayed at first. Pleasant enough lady at reception if a bit quiet ( never asked us how our stay was, probably for the best). The room was quite badly decorated (not much care and attention). Please be aware if using room 2 the carpet is not fitted properly, they are asking for someone to trip and fall! Also woke up in morning to a leak from upstairs toilet! Sat on toilet with stinking water dripping down, had to sit forward to avoid being splashed on the back! And it did STINK!! The lady offered to move us to a different room. This room was better and a bit cleaner but not by much! The bed slats on tje bed came loose and fell off after just sitting down, however it was OK to sleep for the last two nights of our stay ( we would have gone elsewhere bit it's Easter and likely.fully booked). Toilet roll holder fell off and loads of grime around window. All in I won't go again. You might be OK for 1 night at a push but that's it. Didn't risk breakfast so can't comment on that. Such a shame more care not given as could be quite nice

Where to begin... I was greeted by a friendly enough woman who gleefully explained that I'd been upgraded from single room to twin. Good start. There was a very strong smell of stale cigarette smoke, which I presumed to be emanating from their living quarters. My room (6) was on the top floor and thankfully didn't overlook the street. The smell of smoke pervaded, even with the window open. As I unpacked, I realised their was nowhere to hang clothes, and the drawers so small they could barely accommodate a t-shirt. As I slowly took in my 'home' for the night, the dreadful realisation that this place is filthy began to dawn on me. Dust on the back of the TV, engrained dirt on windowsill, thick layer of dust on cistern pipe,dust bunnies hanging from the ceiling, and a cracked plug socket with an extension lead. A frantic Internet search for alternative accommodation was unsuccessful. Grin and bear it. The towels and bedding stank of smoke and made for a thoroughly unpleasant attempt at sleep. Given the general state of filth, I opted to forego breakfast and got the first train home in the morning.
