Grand Hotel en Résidence de Draak

I would rate this higher if I could! What an amazing hotel, world class. Great location, super rooms, comfy bed, fantastic ambiance and atmosphere. The architecture is stunning! The restaurant is amazing, the staff helpful and friendly. Could recommend any higher.

Mooi hotel, zeer mooie kamer, zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Lekker en uitgebreid ontbijt. Leuke bar (avond). Restaurant was helaas gesloten tijdens ons verblijf (zondag = sluitingsdag). Door problemen met 1e kamer (continu achtergrondlawaai) werd zonder probleem direct een oplossing gezocht door de mensen van de receptie en ons een rustiger kamer ( suite) aangeboden zonder meerprijs. Zeer sympathiek en commerciëel. Wij komen zeker terug (op dag dat restaurant open is!) Bedankt ! Hotel ook zeer centraal gelegen ; alles op wandelafstand. Eigen parking is pluspunt (wel smalle doorrit dus rustig in- en uitrijden).

Mooi verzorgd hotel. Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Lekker, goed verzorgd ontbijt. Veel keuze. De kamers waren netjes. In de Bar lekker gegeten. Minpuntje is,de bar is niet zo groot, in de avond was er geen plaats om iets te drinken.

We recently stayed for two nights at Hotel de Draak in Bergen op Zoom, drawn in by its rich history and beautiful public areas. And indeed, the location is excellent, the entrance is grand, and the bar is truly lovely. Unfortunately, the charm ends there. The room—labeled a suite and pitched as an upgrade from our originally booked room—was a major disappointment. Despite the “upgrade,” we went from a queen bed to two singles, something not clearly communicated in the email offering the paid upgrade (thankfully, the fee was eventually waived). The suite itself felt more like a collection of mismatched furniture than a coherent design. The decor was dated, with a disjointed mix between the seating area and desk space. Lighting in the room was absolutely dire. Besides the bedside lamps—both of which was hanging on by a thread and neither of which provided usable reading light—there were only two more light sources in the entire room. The overall effect left the space dim and gloomy, barely brighter than twilight. Maintenance across the suite was generally poor. There was a nightlight in the bedroom that couldn't be switched off, making restful sleep difficult. The bathroom, while functional, featured a bathtub with a shower overhead and a flimsy three-piece folding screen that wouldn’t stay in place—a trip hazard and a daily frustration. Hotel de Draak may be the oldest hotel in the Netherlands, and while that history is worn proudly, it’s unfortunately also worn through the guest rooms. The public areas sparkle with charm and character, but the rooms are in dire need of refurbishment, better lighting, and proper upkeep if the hotel hopes to live up to its legacy.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel de Draak! This beautiful property, rich in historical character and ideally located in the heart of Bergen op Zoom, was the perfect base for exploring the city. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, and both The Bar and Restaurant 1397 offered excellent food and service. We were especially impressed by the hotel’s responsiveness to guest feedback. After our first night, we mentioned via the in-room tablet that our room was not fully dark, which is important to us for a restful sleep. Reception addressed the issue the same day and provided a thoughtful solution. This level of proactive service truly stood out. We highly recommend Hotel de Draak and look forward to returning.

Fijne omgeving, zeer vriendelijk personeel en ook het aangenaam avondmaal in historische omgeving ! Het was juist Koningsdag, dus veel ervaringen samen ... ! Ik vermoed dat dit voor Bergen op Zoom het hotel is waar je moet verblijven ! Mooie herinnering aan dit weekend !
