A Refined Coastal Retreat at Taru Villas – The Long House Taru Villas – The Long House offered us a truly elegant beachfront escape. Set along a golden stretch of sandy shoreline, the setting was nothing short of breathtaking. The passing train became an almost cinematic moment, gliding between us and the glimmering Indian Ocean just beyond the tracks—an unexpected, exotic charm. The pool was simply scrumptious, inviting and serene, perfect for a quiet dip under the sun. Dining al fresco was a daily pleasure, with beautifully prepared Sri Lankan specialties and freshly grilled local seafood. The tuna and daily catch were our absolute favorites, accompanied by an abundance of fresh fruit at both breakfast and dinner. With just nine rooms, the atmosphere was intimate yet refined. The staff greeted us with warm, genuine smiles, creating a feeling of being both pampered and at home. Our bed was wonderfully comfortable, and we appreciated the thoughtful layout of our private sitting area and the lush flower arrangements throughout the property. The open-air shower—with its excellent water pressure—was a lovely touch of luxury, as was the pristine, well-maintained pool. This stay felt both luxurious and authentic, a balance not many places strike so gracefully. A truly special experience.

A beautiful property with only a handful of rooms. Even if full it would not feel crowded. The staff are so friendly and really look after you, even when we arrived in the middle of the night after a delayed flight. Great food too. Wish we had stayed longer!

A wonderful place to stay and relax. Large bedroom and bathroom and a balcony to sit and read. Pool was lovely but a bit shallow in places to have a serious swim. Staff were attentive and breakfasts gorgeous. For the train enthusiasts the railway line runs at the back of the garden so an added, but not too often, bonus!

We are just about to leave The Long House after a fabulous 5 night stay. Everything has been perfect. The setting is lovely and all of the staff were so friendly and happy. Our room was very large with a huge bathroom including an outdoor shower. The whole hotel is furnished beautifully and tastefully with lots of seating areas with huge sofas and plenty of overhead fans . All of our meals were delicious without exception. Asanga was a very attentive manager . All of the staff without exception were lovely . Rooms were cleaned daily and were immaculate. The beach was fantastic although too hot to spend much time on it but such an amazing treat to have the sea so close. Our only regret is that we have to leave. A perfect end to our 2 weeks in this lovely country

Wonderful location next to the beach. Superb facilities and excellent staff. From the moment we arrived and throughout our stay we were looked after so well by the very helpful staff. Rooms were beautifully designed and cleanliness 10 out of 10. Food superb. Cannot thank all the staff enough for making our stay so special. Absolutely recommend Taru Villa Bentota. 🙏🙏

An amazing stay! We decided to have some days to relax after touring Sri Lanka and this was the perfect choice to end on a high!! Our room 5 was so comfortable with high ceilings, private terrace, personal lounge, huge bathroom and really comfortable big four poster bed, all spotlessly clean and views of beautiful tended flower gardens. All the staff were so attentive and kind and nothing was too much trouble. Asanga, the manager, was outstanding and gave us an early check in and late check out and could not have done more to look after us. So many staff shone out, from Taranga in the restaurant who gave us our favourite poolside table, the rest of the waiting staff who brought complimentary tea, water and delicious homemade afternoon snacks, the security man who changed our room safe when the battery went flat, the room boys who refreshed the room and brought anti mosquito coils and citronella each evening and staff who carried sun beds and parasol to the beach for us!! My husband felt like a king!! (He’s now hell to live with now that we’re home ). We tried Sri Lankan and western menu and both were delicious! A great location.. we took a local tuk tuk from outside the hotel to the station to catch a train to Galle. The beach was at the end of the garden through palm trees across a train track and was very quiet, safe swimming and beautiful golden soft sand. The hotel pool was just as lovely with shower room close by. The occasional train went by but this was sweet to watch, the locals waving from the train as they went to school and work. During our 16 day holiday touring Sri Lanka we stayed in 7 quality hotels and we enjoyed our stay at Taru the most. The genuine warmth and sincerity of each and individual member of staff , led from the top, made us feel not just like royalty but also like beloved family members. A truly wonderful experience in a luxury boutique hotel and would definitely highly recommend you visit!! We would love to come back.

We stayed at the Taru Villas, the long house, for 4 nights as our last stop before returning home after a tour of Sri Lanka. Asanga, the manager was superb and gave us a warm welcome and tour of hotel after arrival. He also made the effort every day to talk with everyone during breakfast and dinner to ensure that everything was ok. All the staff were excellent, kind, attentive and of course always smiling. Our room was spacious, clean and we particularly liked the additional things which were provided to enhance our stay. For example, a citronella burner was lit in our room and balcony every evening, plus moisturiser provided to help keep the mosquitos at bay - which worked well as I am usually eaten alive! Breakfast and dinners were superb. The pool was fantastic; very warm and inviting. The beach area is literally at the end of the hotel grounds and the sea was the same temperature as the pool! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to others. Thank you to everyone who helped make our stay so memorable and for all the extra work you did to make Valentine's Day special - you are all wonderful and we would certainly like to return.

Food. My review is in 2 parts, this is about our dining experience firstly. We had 4 nights here and it is without exaggeration the food was 5*..... We had the best breakfasts of fresh fruit and smoothie to start then the main of granola, curd, honey, banana and coconut a couple of times then the eggs benedict which was amazing. Dinner varied each night and it is fair to say every bit of every course was devoured and enjoyed!! A mix of genuine Sri Lanka cuisine and other meals were blended with sorbet between courses. Finally the staff were fantastic, well disciplined when serving, banter was entertaining and light hearted exactly as it should be. Perfect. The staff each deserve praise so a big thank you to Nimesh, Tharanga, Smith and Thisara!!
